Oliver or Louis?

I have 4 weeks to go and am really struggling with names for our first little boy. Middle name will be James and surname McMillan.
We both like Oliver but it does bother me that it's so popular. Any other suggestions MOST welcome!.....

I prefer Louis but prefer the sound of Oliver James to Louis James: to many sss at the ends of the names.

sorry but that is no help.

Thanks.... I just feel like we need a longer list incase all the boys on our ward get called Oliver too! This is soooo hard... girls are much easier.

For boys I love Francis and it is certainly underused imo. Smile

CreepyFunbags · 11/08/2010 16:43

I like Louis.

pozzling · 11/08/2010 16:44

I prefer Oliver.

emmyloo2 · 11/08/2010 17:11

I like both but prefer Oliver. It was originally one of our names for our baby due in November but like you, it's recent popularity put me off. I also discounted Noah for that reason.

Our current shortlist, if it's of any use is: Edward, Alexander, Max and Felix.

weepootle · 11/08/2010 17:13

Both are lovely, but I really love Oliver.

pitterpatterfeet · 11/08/2010 20:07

Think both are overused - would personally use James as a first name - it's classic!

Pinner35 · 11/08/2010 20:09

I love Oliver.....are you pronouncing Louis as Lewis or Louey?

proudfoot · 11/08/2010 22:31

Just saw your other friend about Oliver and Finlay and picked Finlay... but definitely prefer Oliver over Louis any day!

NiceCuppaT · 11/08/2010 22:38

Louis if pron louey

beaditAli · 12/08/2010 08:43

Thanks all. So kind to get help on this. I can't bring myself to call him James as a first name as I just hate Jim and Jimmy and I know he would get this! DH is Matthew.
I'm thrilled so many of you like Oliver and think it's timelessness will prevent it being a popular/fad name.
