Evie as the full name?

I am 39 weeks pregnant and we have virtually decided on Evie Annabel if we have a girl. Do you think Evie is okay as a name in it's own right? I like the idea of her having a simple name, rather than a formal name that's shortened (ie Evelyn to Evie), but don't want her to feel like her name is 'twee' as she grows up. Thoughts?

It's a nice name but it is very very popular, Eve, Evie etc., nearly every new baby I know is called one of the other.

It is a twee name, far too twee for me. If you are stuck on Evie go for it but she will have lots of others in her class. She'll probably have some Eves/Evas/Avas as well.

Almost every baby girl born in the last 4 years in my town is called Evie.

Sorry to keep adding my two penn'orth, but going back to your point about not wanting her to go by a different name to what she is on paper, a few people have mentioned Evies going by Eve rather than vice versa, so even if you name her Evie it could still happen that she has Evie on all her documents but is widely known as Eve. So... I think she might as well have the more formal name as her 'default' on documents, especially for when she grows older. OK, I'll shut up now Grin

the question wasnt shall i call her evie its shall i put that on the bc, so all of those who say dont do it whats the point!!

i have an evie (yes annoying that is got very popular) but she is and always will be the only evie to us. i like eve and others that sound like it, but i love the name evie so that is what is on bc.

go with what u love xx

I know Evie has become very popular but my DD is the only one in her nursery/school, which I find quite surprising. I have Evie on her bc too even though I mostly call her Eve, but tbh I kind of wish now I had done it the other way round and just used Evie as a nn.

I have an Evie- she's nearly 14. She was the only one in her school till she was in year 5.
I love it.

I'd say go with a full name like Evangeline or Evelyn, then call her Eve or Evie for short.

Thanks for all your comments - we will probably stick with Evie but this thread has provoked some good discussion for DH and me (and you put up some good arguments LilMagill!) Murphy's law that we'll have another boy anyway and all the angst will have been wasted!
