Isn't Ruby Lou a potato?

Both are fine, go with the one you prefer. You are aware aren't you that Ruby is the 2nd most popular name for girls so there may be a few others around?

NiceCuppaT · 11/08/2010 09:03

Both are okay...not exciting but okay

lulabellamozerella · 11/08/2010 09:29

I prefer Ruby Louise because I feel it flows better than Ruby Rose however I think they both are nice. If you like Ruby then go for it, I've got the most popular girls name for the year I was born and its never bothered me.

Bellepink · 11/08/2010 09:30

I like Ruby Rose. It's cute and I like the alliteration.

skidoodly · 11/08/2010 09:33

Neither.

Is Ruby non-negotiable? It's pretty terrible.

belgo · 11/08/2010 09:35

Ruby Rose is far too twee. Who on earth would want to give their daughter a 'cute' name?

Ruby Louise if you must have Ruby.

Ronaldinhio · 11/08/2010 09:36

ruby is strong enough to stand alone

cravingcroissants · 11/08/2010 09:38

Well personally I love the name Ruby....there's nothing wrong with choosing a popular name..it's popular for a reason right?
Ruby Rose is the one I prefer

Bellepink · 11/08/2010 09:44

And what's so wrong with terribly wrong with cute Belgo?! Smile Do names always have to be non-cute then? I think Ruby Rose is cute but still in a real-name context. Ruby and Rose are both very strong names in their own right. I wouldn't personally back a name that describes something cute, like say Fluffy Chick or Teddy Bear.

SecondToughestInTheInfants · 11/08/2010 09:49

Ruby Louise - if she's like Jonathan Woss and can't pronounce her Rs then at least she can pronounce half her name Smile

JuneBugJr · 11/08/2010 09:49

I think Ruby is popular for a reason, because its such a lovely name. Ruby Rose is my favourite, its very pretty, and am not keen on Louise.

Ineedsomesleep · 11/08/2010 09:53

I think Ruby is popular for a reason too, that bloody awful song.

stressheaderic · 11/08/2010 09:57

i like Ruby, it's popular but that doesn't make it horrible.
I prefer Louise to Rose, but I'd prob go with Louisa if the surname began with a consonant.

The ubiquitous name round here is Lily, every one child I meet is one. I know at least 10. Boring...

BuntyPenfold · 11/08/2010 10:01

I like Ruby Rose it sounds lke a fairy tale.
Not keen on Louise at all.
Ruby and Lily everywhere around to be honest if that bothers you.

MrsGypsy · 11/08/2010 10:04

I'm not loving the Ruby or the Louise, but Ruby Rose....well I want to giggle and say Wooby Wose (sorry). I don't have a DD, but finding a name that outlasts fashion (Lily, Sharon & Tracy etc) is not easy.

Start again - pick up a book with lots of female characters - i dunno, Little Women, Pride & Prejudice and see if any of the names there spark something in you. If not, go back to the name you love, Ruby.

muminthemiddle · 11/08/2010 10:39

Ruby Louise x

chaya5738 · 11/08/2010 13:55

I used to like Ruby but it is SO popular now. She be one of about 6 others just in her class. Why don't you use it as a middle name.

I don't like Ruby Rose - too much alliteration.

And Louise is awful name. Wees. Loo. All too toilet-y for me. And dated.

pozzling · 11/08/2010 13:57

Ruby Louise.

Ruby Rose sounds a little too twee, sorry.

LilMagill · 11/08/2010 14:07

I prefer Ruby Rose. Anything-Louise sounds very 70s or 80s to me, when absolutely everyone's middle name was Louise. Although Rose is this decade's Louise.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 11/08/2010 14:26

Ruby Rose sounds nice, but it's a very, er, red name isn't it?

Louise is too boring for words IMO, it is a default middle name, along with Rose and Jane.

zenoushka · 14/08/2010 12:32

How about Ruby Florence?

5DollarShake · 14/08/2010 13:08

Neither. Mix it up a bit bit. Rose and Louise are total default middle names, and Ruby as well is very popular. Does the world need more girls with these names?

If you're completely determined, then definitely not Ruby Rose...

KERALA1 · 14/08/2010 13:16

Move on from Ruby IMO. There are hundreds of them.

Ephiny · 14/08/2010 21:19

I like Ruby Louise better, agree that Ruby Rose sounds a bit twee and cutesy, Ok for a baby girl maybe but not for a grown woman.

But...

My middle name is Louise, agree about it being a default name, and yes I grew up in the 80s when it really did seem to be everyone's middle name, it's true! Also my first name was a very overused one as well (persistently in the top 5 around my year of birth) so I've always felt I had an unremarkable samey name. I imagine Ruby Louise feeling the same way....
