Middle charge has taken it upon herself these last two weeks to INSIST we call her Ethel Hmm

And if I'm entirely honest, it's grown on me!!

Where on earth did she get the idea to change her name to Ethel from?!
I guess you can either go with the flow and call her that or take the stance that you will call her by the name you gave her and that's on the birth cert..?
I'd call her Ethel if it was me. Could be something she changes her mind about later.

morethanyoubargainfor · 08/08/2010 13:55

I really like ethel and i think it really suits a baby! I wish i had thought of that name when i was expecting as it would have been on my girls shortlist.

MilkNoSugarPlease · 08/08/2010 13:55

No idea!...She wanted to be called "Balderdash" a few months back :o

We'll stick with Ethel until she changes her mind again :o

I just realised I Like the name after agreeing it was awful :o

she sounds like a hoot Grin.

I have to say i prefer ethel to balderdash though!

When my ds was around 3 he asked why he was called XXXX and i said that we had choosen it for him and asked if it was ok for him and he repiled very seriously "well if you hadn't called me that i would like to be called Arthur!" We though tthatt was a good name!

usualsuspect · 08/08/2010 14:00

Has she started wearing a hairnet and pinny ?

Flighttattendant · 08/08/2010 14:07

No it's dreadful. Grin

MilkNoSugarPlease · 08/08/2010 14:08

:o She's taken to calling her little sister "Oscar" ... I asked why oscar and she said "Well sha can't have a prettier name then mine :o"

She's 5 and is hilarious!

I quite like Balderdash Wink

:o @ Morethens DS

Usual-she has an apron for baking and likes wandering round in it :o

I insisted everyone called me Bernard when I was about that age.

I suppose Ethel is preferable...

LaundryLyne · 08/08/2010 14:14

I think Ethel is quite nice!

morethanyoubargainfor · 08/08/2010 14:19

i have to say Milk that ethel and oscar go really well together she clearly has style Wink.

I wonder how long it would be on here if you started to refer to your DD oscar whilst out and about! I can see the thread now

today i was out shoppin gand heard a lady call her DD Oscar.......what was she thinking, do you think she really wanted a boy poor love........Blah blah blah Smile.

LetThereBeRock · 08/08/2010 15:27

Yes it is. It's bloody awful.

LetThereBeRock · 08/08/2010 15:28

The child sounds delightful though, even if she has terrible taste in names.

MilkNoSugarPlease · 08/08/2010 16:47

:o she does have terrible taste in names somtimes :o

Morethen-I can imagine the thread already :o

My dd wants to be called Shirley!

for what its worth Ethel is lovely and high on our list for a dd, with Ettie for a nn. I love it!

ValiumSingleton · 08/08/2010 18:04

I like it. But I saw Dorcas on this board yesterday and was truly astounded that a few people seem to like it. Ethel is definitely prettier than Dorcas.

jellybeans · 08/08/2010 18:40

Yes it is

LucyLouLou · 08/08/2010 19:25

My niece went through a solid six months answering to almost nothing but "Mr Sausages". To this day, I'm none the wiser as to why....

Compared to that, Ethel is wonderful Grin.

MilkNoSugarPlease · 08/08/2010 19:36

I LOVE Mr.Sausages! thats brilliant! :o

Shirley it good too :o Ettie is a good NN!

I remember my DB answering to nothing but Sam for months...our cousin is Sam so some jealousy I Think :o

Lol it did make us laugh for quite some time, luckily we have a sweet spirited family who would happily call her that without a fuss. She goes by her actual name now (though last weekend we had two days of calling her Dude)....

The Sam thing in your family sounds completely understandable, but still cute :).

MilkNoSugarPlease · 08/08/2010 22:11

He was Sam MONSTER as I have just been informed :o

Cousin sam is 15 yrs older so maybe he jus loved him :o

I love Dude aswell! :o

I'm just thinking of Ethel Austin!!

faeriemoo · 08/08/2010 22:23

My DD1 is often known by the name Garfield. Her choice.

SharonGless · 08/08/2010 22:26

Yes it is - sorry

Ethel Austin connotation

seaturtle · 08/08/2010 22:31

That's not a bad choice of new name. When I was a child I knew a little boy who insisted on renaming himself Pengh. He even chose the spelling. His real name was Christopher.

LucyLouLou · 08/08/2010 22:39

Dude was pretty funny. Don't know where she heard it though lol, it's not really something that's said a lot in our family.
