I love it too! I want it for DC2 if boy... DH is vetoing currently, but I have another 19 weeks to change his mind. Never occurred to me it could be shortened to Gay - I assumed Gabe.

I have a Gabriel, and we don't shorten it to Gabe, although some of the teaching assistants/dinner ladies at school have done.

It really bugs me that so many people insist on calling him 'Gabrielle', though. I always tell them 'it's Gabriel, like the angel', but they still do it, even people who should know better (like his new teacher who in 6 weeks has never spelt it the same way twice...)

I still think it's a lovely name though. I loved Raphael as well, but thought it might be hard to carry off, so ended up with more 'chummy' names for my other 2 boys.

It's a great name.

We have one in the family. He's only ever called Gabriel - never shortened.

He's at school and never had any teasing about his name.

I LOVE it, and have done for around 20 years! It is top of my list if the baby I am expecting in January, is a boy. I have grown up twin sons named Thomas (Tom) and Jake and I regretted not calling one of them Gabriel.
