Ok, after much discussion, my husband and I seem to have come down to a final three list of names for the boy we are having:

  1. Edward (nn Ted or Teddy or Ed)
  2. Alexander (Alex)
  3. Maxwell (Max)

I have been back and forth on the names and seem to go from deciding on one or the other.

Your thoughts?

Thanks

Like Alexander best. If DD had been a boy she would probably have been Alexander.

NoahAndTheWhale · 02/08/2010 13:06

They are all good names though - none of them are going to make people go .

SacharissaCripslock · 02/08/2010 13:06

Alexander.

Starberries · 02/08/2010 13:08

Edward - we are probably going to use for a middle name as it has family connections. I know 2 Edwards nn Teddy under age 3.

Alexander - I like as a middle name but not as a first name as it's a bit too plain/standard for me. If I did use it, I wouldn't attach the 'Alex' nickname, it's way too overused as a catchall for Alexander, Alexandra, et. all

Maxwell - my favourite of your choices. I love how cuddly the name Max sounds, and it can also be a 'grown-up' name too.

samsonara · 02/08/2010 13:12

I like Alexander best, as I like the shortened Alex, Ally and Al that can be used as they grow.

Hedwig3 · 02/08/2010 14:40

Maxwell, easily.

BuzzingNoise · 02/08/2010 14:43

Alexander would be my first choice, then Edward.
Max is a good name for a doggie - I have one

latrucha · 02/08/2010 14:44

Alexander and Edward, yes; Maxwell, no.

Max is ok though.

Mingg · 02/08/2010 14:48

Alexander of course

mumtoabeautifulbabyboy · 02/08/2010 16:15

Edward (love) then Alexander.
Don't really like Maxwell personally (think of coffee or Eastenders!)

CerealOffender · 02/08/2010 16:18

you need to add orville or something to the list for comedy value

BelligerentGhoul · 02/08/2010 16:21

Edward is the best! Pick Edward! I love Edward!

emmyloo2 · 02/08/2010 16:36

Thanks everyone.

Cereal - I don't get it? Is Orville a drink or something....

Maxwell (Max)

cece · 02/08/2010 17:43

100% Edward and love all the nn you can use with it too.

cece · 02/08/2010 17:43

Orville is a green duck I think..

midnightexpress · 02/08/2010 17:44

Love Max, but not keen on Maxwell.

Alexander OK, but a bit over-used IMO.

Edward is nice, esp NN Ed.

cinnamongreyhound · 02/08/2010 17:47

Edward is lovely, my dad's middle name is Edward and am trying to persuade DH that we should have it as a middle name for this baby but he's not keen. I like Max too but not Maxwell.

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 02/08/2010 17:57

Edward

MrsJohnDeere · 02/08/2010 17:57

Love Edward
like Alexander
don't like Maxwell

minipie · 02/08/2010 17:58

Alexander - lovely

Edward - lovely, and lots of good nn options

Maxwell - I really like Max, but I'd go for Maximilian rather than Maxwell as long form.

skyeplusbump · 02/08/2010 18:55

i like max although im not to keen on maxwell as long version...

alexander is fine...

Edward:
easily the best,
great nn potential! teddy,eddy,ed,ted,etc.

its going to be dc's middle name
(although you know that, you voted for it! )

LaundryLyne · 02/08/2010 19:14

Edward or Alexander.

FranSanDisco · 02/08/2010 19:23

All the names are lovely.

I love Max rather than Maxwell. Alex(ander) is very popular. Edward has loads of nn potential - Teddy, Eddie, Bear .... These were all on my list and Max won despite the dog name comments. He acts like a mad puppy anyway .

NadiaWadia · 03/08/2010 02:39

Alexander is the best! Edward OK but a lot of them around. Maxwell makes me think of coffee (anyone remember Maxwell House)?

Alexander is classic with an international feel and there are a choice of nicknames, Alex, Alec, Xander and so on.
