Nice but rather old for me, and the ubiquitous Alfie as a shortening puts me off too.

LaundryLyne · 01/08/2010 21:44

I like it

polkadottytotty · 01/08/2010 21:45

I like it - and I like Albie as a nn.

Albie is gorgeous though, I have to say

usualsuspect · 01/08/2010 21:53

Awful

Jarvis Cocker's son is Albert

I know a toddler Albert. I actually laughed when his mother first told me his name - he had been "baby" for several days and I thought she was winding me up . It had grown on me now, although I still have to resist the urge to call him Uncle

Colliecross · 02/08/2010 00:06

Old Albert means something rude, I am told by rude person here

ChynaDoll2006 · 02/08/2010 01:51

or Bertie, for a nn

cinnamongreyhound · 02/08/2010 12:21

I love Albert! Another one that DH says no to

Pasiphae · 02/08/2010 12:27

Like it a lot! Fab name.

LimaCharlie · 02/08/2010 12:33

I know a 7 year old Albert - nn Bertie for short - gorgeous.

LimaCharlie · 02/08/2010 12:33

And I always thought Alfie was short for Alfred - no?

Hedwig3 · 02/08/2010 12:33

Lovely.

TheDoodler · 02/08/2010 12:37

I love it - sadly we couldn't have it as it really didn't go with our surname....think large round building .

BootyMum · 02/08/2010 12:47

Really like Albert, Albie and Bertie. Very sweet and will suit him as a little boy and also as a grown man. I always look at how appropriate a name will be throughout a life and I think Albie and Bertie are lovely for a child and perhaps then can revert to Albert when he becomes a high court judge!

GetOrfMoiLand · 02/08/2010 12:52

Albert is a lovely name. It is my name for the fantasy baby boy I will never have.

usualsuspect · 02/08/2010 12:54

I can't imagine a teenager called Albert, but then I hate old man names

witchwithallthetrimmings · 02/08/2010 12:55

i have one and although many rellies were sceptical about it to begin with (to the extent of refereing to him as the boy for the first 6 months) everybody now loves it. toddler for albert is albow which is also lovely

RetroMum1 · 02/08/2010 16:10

I love it, our dog is called it!!! But I would have used it for my son had I held out. I've never known it shortened to Alfie and I really don't like Alfie.

I know one who is Bertie, so cute.

ShatnersBassoon · 02/08/2010 16:16

I love the names Albert, Albie, Bert and Bertie.

lulabellamozerella · 02/08/2010 16:53
