Do you hear your DC's name everywhere?

Is it because I now have a DD that I notice it more? Three threads on here on her name in the last couple of days. Or is it just that Orla is becoming a popular name. ( I know it always has been in Ireland but have never encountered it where I live). Not complaining about that by the way!

Nope, not at all.

Think it's because they are 'different' names.

WaftyCrank · 31/07/2010 16:13

My DS is Joseph and everywhere I go I always hear another fraught mother shouting 'Joseph, will you come here!'

It's not just mine that's a bolter!

MrsRhettButler · 31/07/2010 16:15

i never hear dd's name....

well, until the girl down the road stole it for her dd

but i don't know or hear of any others

Marne · 31/07/2010 16:16

I never hear dd2's name, but i often hear dd1's name 'Holly'.

thisisyesterday · 31/07/2010 16:17

no, pretty much never. we occasionally hear ds2's name, but never either of the others

SlummyMummyAndProud · 31/07/2010 16:26

Never hear ds's name, Colm. Have also checked and ftom what i remember he was the only one that year :-)

JuicyLips · 31/07/2010 16:27

yes, constantly!

MrsGokWan · 31/07/2010 16:43

Never hear DS1&3'S names being called but once in a blue moon do hear DS2's.

muggglewump · 31/07/2010 16:46

I've never met, or heard of another irl which is odd because there's two active threads with it on here currently (albeit one with it spelled ridiculously).

morethanyoubargainfor · 31/07/2010 16:48

I have only ever heard ds name once, whilst on a shopping trip in Nottingham. I was most put out as it is 'my name' . It really made me feel a little strange.

How do i check how many others were born in the same year?

mathanxiety · 31/07/2010 16:57

I only hear one of the DCs' names, and I hear it or see it on lists everywhere. The other 4 are apparently very unusual.

PaulineCampbellJones · 31/07/2010 17:23

slummymummy I have a cousin called Colm. Lovely name!

I've heard DS's name twice since he was born (he's 15 months old now). He's called Nicholas.

ValiumSingleton · 31/07/2010 17:40

No, and I'm always surprised when I do. There are only two little boys in my town that I know of and my ears flew out on stalks when I heard another mother call out his name. It's quite dated.

PaulineCampbellJones · 31/07/2010 18:49

Link is here for names.

I do for DS's name (Alfie) but surprisingly not for DD's (Evie) which I know has become very popular since we named her it, but she is the only one in her nursery (and the whole school come to that) and we live in London!

I have one very popular ds name (around 3rd 4th 5th most years) but he's the only one in his school and rarely hear it when out and about.

Other ds's full name i hardly hear either but the abbreviation (and name in it's own right) is very popular and i hear it all the time

Spinaroo · 31/07/2010 19:40

My son is Jack- what do you think?

Flighttattendant · 31/07/2010 19:41

No, I never hear either of them. But I did choose them knowing they were quite unusual and unlikely to be popular at least for a few years.
Actually I hear and see one of them a great deal but it's very rarely a child being called it iyswim. Like Valium's, it's quite dated.

prozacfairy · 31/07/2010 19:42

Yes. Alot. But it don't bother me. It just means that I'm not the only one with great taste

Flighttattendant · 31/07/2010 19:42

(main reason for choosing names: unlikelihood of losing child in shopping centre and having to pick from a line up)

Oh no - just tried the link to see if ds2 is on the list, and I can't open XLS files

Does anyone know a way to do this please? Or are they listed somewhere in a different format perhaps?
