My daughter is 5 weeks old, but still haven't decided on a names for her. My son is called Jay.

When I was pregnant we called her Ruby, but now she's here I've totally gone off the name!

My other half likes Mai, but I think it's far too common.

So I'm really stuck on what to call her... What do you think about Ria or Karis??

They sound like makes of car....well you did ask.

ShowOfHands · 28/07/2010 22:49

Umm, they're not my cup of tea. Ria sounds a bit like a brand of budget squash or a reference to an upset stomach.

Carys is nice.

SirBoobAlot · 28/07/2010 22:50

Are you going to be using Ria as short for something?

Karis is okay. Don't love or loathe it.

deemented · 28/07/2010 22:55

They would be better if you used the proper spelling, tbh.

I have friendS Rhia and Carys, nice good strong Welsh names.

nevergoogle · 28/07/2010 22:57

I like Rhiannon and Cerys or Charis better.

Cakey0207 · 28/07/2010 23:00

Thanks for your honesty.

I'm just finding it sooo hard to find a name for her. It seems that alot of girls names are similar or the other names I like have been used by family or friends...

DD's best friends are Rhea and Carys. I would prefer the more traditional spellings.

BikeRunSki · 28/07/2010 23:20

I LOVE Carys, spelt the traditional way.

PadmeHum · 28/07/2010 23:22

My DD is Carys Faith.

We have had no problems with pronunciation and most people love her name.

I prefer traditional spellings of names and Karis seems a bit americanised iyswim.

Congratulations on your DD and good luck with her name.

TheNextMrsDepp · 28/07/2010 23:23

Carys is really pretty.

I like Rhea or whatever way you spell it.

DilysPrice · 28/07/2010 23:58

Charis is one of the Graces of Greek mythology - also the name of a beautiful, kind-hearted but irredeemably dim-witted charater in a georgette Heyer novel.

CheerfulYank · 29/07/2010 05:40

They're both okay. I like the traditional spellings better.

moaningminniewhingesagain · 29/07/2010 06:23

They sound like new models of Toyotas to me, sorry.

Carys very pretty though

GladioliBuckets · 29/07/2010 10:10

Jay and Mai rhyming? Bit silly.
Trad spellings vote here too.
Have you thought about Mariah?

BlueChampagne · 29/07/2010 13:26

Just come from another thread - how about Thea? or Clea?

Fimbo · 29/07/2010 13:30

I like Carys.

How about Lara or Talia?

domesticsluttery · 29/07/2010 13:33

DD is Carys Angharad, I prefer that spelling myself.

LimaCharlie · 29/07/2010 13:37

Nice names if proper spelling used - or to vary Thea or Cerys?

Cakey0207 · 29/07/2010 15:05

Thanks for all your input.

Seeing the traditional spellings of Rhea & Carys I also perfer now.

Mariah reminds me of Mariah Carey and I'm not much of a fan.

Not keen on Thea, Clea, Lara or Talia.

I like Carys/Charis, not so keen on Rhea.

Firawla · 29/07/2010 16:05

I liked your Ria sp more than Rhea cos that sp reminds me more of Rear as in rearend (sorry..) but Ria is v pretty
do like sp Carys more though, even though Karis is okay too

TheNextMrsDepp · 29/07/2010 16:18

Rhea always reminds me of that dippy mum in Butterflies (showing my age......).

orienteerer · 29/07/2010 16:18

Not keen.
