People are sniggering at my newborns name

Ds2 is only 2 weeks old and we finally agreed on a name for him which is Rocco.
So far everyone in RL has said it's awful.
Alot of older people have said it's aggressive and sounds like a boxer.
My mother said that people have told her that I've chosen a dreadful name and that Rocco is a well-known famous porn star.
Yesterday I googled 'Rocco' and the first thing that came up was the adult star.
DH met a few friends for drinks last week and they laughed when he told them the name and said they didn't realise we were into porn!
Dh came home saying he now feels like an idiot telling people our sons name as he had heard of this famous pornstar.
Now I am at wits ends.
My mother said people think I'm copying Madonna too(I'm not and not a fan of Madonna either).
I hate that the name is connected to a pornstar.Dh wants to change his name to Samson or Emerson.
I think Emerson goes well with ds1 who is Ellis but don't know what to do!Also like the name Asher.
Just sick of changing our minds so much.
Thought Rocco was a lovely name untill now
Anyway thanks for reading mn's

I think it sounds like something Katie Price would chose to name one of her children, but if it suits you, just ignore peoples' comments.

BelligerentGhoul · 27/07/2010 15:04

Are you the same person who agonised over what to call this child, then wondered about changing it, liked Beau etc etc? If so, then you really, really seem to be over-thinking all of of this imho.

Samson and Emerson are both terrible and whilst (as I said on your other multi-threads) I personally am not v fond of Rocco, it really isn't anybody else's business. If you like the name, then keep the name. If you change the name, I then imagine you'd be tempted to think about changing it again later. It seems a lot of fuss imho. Just give the poor child a name and stick to it and have done!

I think your biggest problem is that you chose such a lovely name for your ds1 that now nothing else lives up to it!

belgo · 27/07/2010 15:04

I knew an elderly Italian Rocco. It's fine if you have italian connections, I wouldn't choose it otherwise.

glacierchick · 27/07/2010 15:09

There is also Sir Rocco Forte (of the Rocco Forte hotels chain) and he's worth 300million quid...

ExitPursuedByABear · 27/07/2010 15:12

I was thinking of Rocco Forte too. Nothing wrong with it at all. But then I don't watch porn.

rachel234 · 27/07/2010 15:13

I love Rocco and know a gorgeous 8 year old one.

I have NEVER thought/known about any porn relation. Honestly. Madonna maybe, but porn no.

I would stick with it. People will soon get used to it and think of your son when they hear it. And by the time your ds is a teenager this porn star will have been forgotten anyway.

Personally I think Ellis and Rocco are perfect together .

(Don't like Samson or Emerson very much)

Fel1x · 27/07/2010 15:14

Rocco is lovely. I've never heard of the porn star either.
Roscoe is nice too though if the name is really causing you so much upset you can't bear to keep it

stleger · 27/07/2010 15:15

St Rocco is the saint with a dog! I like St Rocco.

Besom · 27/07/2010 15:16

Don't change the name - get some new friends!

rachel234 · 27/07/2010 15:17

Good point, Besom!!

Would not be happy if my friends were so rude AFTER my baby was born and named!!

ZZZenAgain · 27/07/2010 15:19

she could get new friends maybe but not so easy to replace your mother

Colliecross · 27/07/2010 15:21

I know a baby Rocco and thought of it as modern and unusual.
I had no idea about the porn star, but I presume there are other porn star names in use by we innocents.

I have always loved Jordan for a girl as in the Great Gatsby but that name is ruined by you-know-who.(not Voldemort)

welshandproud · 27/07/2010 15:25

I cant believe people can be so rude after the baby is born and named ....I've heard of plenty who critisise before the birth so we always keep our names secret until the baby arrives! To me Rocco makes me think of Madonna, but still a lovely name.

Just out of interest do people generally google their chosen names to see who has gone before? We didnt with DC1 but have subsequently.

hobbgoblin · 27/07/2010 15:29

Your mother should but out and your dh's friends are just being 'man at pub-ish'

I know a man in his 60s named Rocco and he is Italian. It's not a name I would choose but that doesn't mean it is not a lovely name for your DS. Once the name and person become entwined Rocco will only mean your little boy to you and those that love him, and will not conjure thoughts of porn stars, elderly Italian's or anything else. This is true of all names once we have chosen them.

alexisfaith · 27/07/2010 15:33

You have been on here fretting about your baby's name so often, OP ...I'm so sorry it's still not working out for you. I think Samson is nicer than Emerson with Ellis.

I remember your DH wanted Kerry - did you think of Kerr? It's a lovely name for a boy.

Wallace · 27/07/2010 15:37

I think it is fine. FYI there were 16 Roccos born in Scotland in 2009. That is more baby boys called Rocco, than Richard.

mixedmamameansbusiness · 27/07/2010 16:11

People are truly assholes. DH family asked us to change DS1 cos they didnt like it. TOUGH.

Your baby, your name, everyone else will get their chance.

Makes me so angry.

And by the way I love Rocco.

Right said my piece now flouncing off to rant elsewhere.

meadowlarks · 27/07/2010 16:23

I like Emerson. Samson is a bit trendy for my liking. Emerson also goes well with Ellis.

And yes, I too thought of Rocco Siffredi.

meadowlarks · 27/07/2010 16:25

Random comment - My second cousin is the illegitimate son of Rocco Forte. He didn't get a penny and is an alcoholic now.

ninah · 27/07/2010 16:30

Look stick with it - your choice don't take any notice of what others think or their rude comments
my first thought was Rocco Forte too btw
Ellis and Rocco are lovely names you have good taste op

LauraNorder · 27/07/2010 16:32

People can be so horrible sometimes. Your baby, your choice!

DD2 is called Abbie (Abigail) when DH went back to work one of his colleagues said, "Hmm Abbie, is that because you were thinking of Abi Titmus during the conception?" What a knob!

She would have been called Angelina if that was the case!

gagamama · 27/07/2010 16:35

Rocco isn't a name I'd choose or even compliment, but I don't understand why people feel the need to offer opinions on the name when you introduce your beautiful newborn son. If you like Rocco, he looks like a Rocco and feels like a Rocco, he's already Rocco. End of.

LetThereBeRock · 27/07/2010 16:45

I really don't like Rocco. I think Samson is much nicer and different without being too weird, though he'll probably still be called Sam by his classmates.

SqueezyB · 27/07/2010 17:16

if you like it then keep it! I have met a baby Rocco in DD's toddler group and it's certainly not a weird name , not compared to others i've heard.

Just say to these rude people 'well we don't watch porn so i wouldn't know - clearly you do!!'

roundthebend4 · 27/07/2010 18:58

Ds2 middle name is rocco and some of his friends use it, it has not caused him any problems but he does fit the name ,very Italian looking mind he has not twigged how good looking he is insert biased mum emote
