Are you looking for a popular name or a classic but not so common name ?

I own a children's shoe shop and get a bit of a feel for what is in vogue.

I meet lots of Graces and Emilys similarly Rhys and Finn are very popular now.

The others are all lovely but not quite so popular without being outrageous.

They are all nice names however and not at all dated or way out.

I despair at some of the names I hear on a daily basis.

CheerfulYank · 26/07/2010 02:05

I really like all your girl names; I know about a billion Emily's but it's still a very pretty name.

I love Rhys and Finn, they are def on my shortlist! I like Charlie too. Rory and Theo are just ok IMO.

strandedatsea · 26/07/2010 02:11

I really like Theo. Amelia is my favourite of the girls names, the rest are just so-so for me. All fine though.

polkadottytotty · 26/07/2010 08:57

Matilda and Theo are my favourites from your lists

violetsmile · 26/07/2010 09:05

Matilda- not keen, a bit dated sounding to me and doesn't sound pretty when said out loud.

Grace- Lovely name but it was top of the baby names list in 2007 or 8 so it's been hugely popular and seems to be on it's way out.

Daisy- Pretty.

Amelia- my favourite on you list, very elegant but also cute when she's little. Beautiful name.

Emily- nice.

Rhys- lovely, like this a lot.

Charlie- lovely name but again has been very over used lately.

Rory- not keen, reminds me of the racing car!

Finn- lovely, my favourite boy's name from your list.

Theo- also lovely, very close second favourite to finn!

JosephineClaire · 26/07/2010 10:13

Matilda, Rory & Theo are my favourites

gorionine · 26/07/2010 10:16

All very nice names. I cannot pick one I like more.

Inspirachion · 26/07/2010 11:50

Amelia (would use nn Millie mostly though) and Rory are my current favourites for my DC1 due saturday x

NiceCuppaT · 26/07/2010 11:54

Matilda and Fin(ley)

JuJuu · 26/07/2010 11:55

Sorry but I really do not like Charles PaintingonFence!

Archie was also on my list but I feel it has been ruined by that Z list lowbrow Danielle Lloyd!

Theo is DH's contribution, I'm not really that keen as I think it sounds too twee for a boy.

Matilda - nice but bit popular now
Grace - adore
Daisy - like for girl but not for adult
Amelia - love
Emily - love

Rhys - don't like
Charlie - like
Rory - ok
Finn - too popular and overdone
Theo - adore

Favourites definitely would be Grace and Theo (but with Theodore on birth certificate)

AngelHMum - I would love to hear what names you despair at!!

PaintingTheFence · 26/07/2010 14:12

Fair enough JuJuu, although how would you feel about people often assuming that Charlie is his full name?

PaintingTheFence · 26/07/2010 14:12

sorry, should have said assuming that Charles is his full name

JuJuu · 26/07/2010 14:25

I think most Charlies are just Charlie these days. I think it's one of the most popular boys names.

OP posts:
foreverastudent · 26/07/2010 20:22

Matilda- getting trendy these days
Grace- a bit overused, what if the child isn't graceful?
Daisy- a bit too childish for an adult
Amelia-good
Emily-i really like it but, as above is overused at the moment

Rhys-good but a spelling problem
Charlie-'s angels
Rory-a bit of a dog's name but ok
Finn-again, v trendy now
Theo- same again, but I like this the least

Polly1987 · 27/07/2010 12:51

Daisy: Love it, would use it.
Amelia: Ok
Emily: Love it, very classic but getting popular again

Rhys: Ok
Charlie: Like it
Rory: Like it, alternative spelling: Ruairi
Finn: Like it
Theo: Like it

wigglesrock · 29/07/2010 14:09

If you're bothered by popularity, went on holiday a few months ago and every other little girl under the age of seven was called Amelia!! Although my little girl is called Olivia, (not as popular in Ireland as it seems to be everywhere else!!!)

CharlieBoo · 29/07/2010 19:15

Ahhh, I have a 5 year old ds called Charlie and a 14 month old dd called Daisy...... so obviously I think they're the best! ;-)

You're right, most Charlie's are Charlie's. I hate Charles and would never ever have called him that so why saddle him with an awful name on his birth cert??

You have great taste by the way....I like Theo, but remember some may pronounce 'Feeo'...not so nice.

LOVE Amelia too

Lonnie · 29/07/2010 20:19
