Jasper or Thomas for DS4...

Chooster · 22/07/2010 10:11

We are expecting DS4 and already have a Max, Henry and Theo.

For DS4 we are thinking og Jasper or Thomas... or Lucas (at least I'm still thinking of this one - DH doesn't like it!).

Both like Thomas but where we are in Scotland it may get shortened to Tam instead of Tom which we dont like. No matter if we called him Tom, at high school it will become whatever his friends call him.

Is Jasper as nice as we think it is?

I think Thomas and Lucas go best with the others (all lovely by the way).

Although I like Jasper the best!

valiumSingleton · 22/07/2010 10:18

Hmmm, Thomas goes better I think. But there are a lot of thomases out there, if you are bothered by that.

I like Jasper but it's a bit too quirky next to your other choices. what about Victor? or Hector?

FranSanDisco · 22/07/2010 10:24

Your ds's have lovely names. From your list I would choose Lucas first (or Luke), then Thomas and finally Jasper. I know what you mean about scottish nn. as dh has lots of friends called Rab, Tam and Wullie. Dh's name is shortened to Drew (Andrew) as Andy isn't acceptable in Glasgow he tells me .

flox · 22/07/2010 11:13

Hi, I like Jasper the best - a super name! It goes well with your other DS's names and is different without being odd. My vote's for Jasper!

flox · 22/07/2010 11:15

PS Jasper is increasing quickly in popularity at the moment so I don't think it will be regarded as too quirky for long.

PaintingTheFence · 22/07/2010 11:27

They're all nice choices and go well with the names you already have. I like Jasper best from the three.

Chooster · 22/07/2010 11:44

Ooh, good to see that you all seem to like Jasper! It is a little on the quirkier side but as flox says I'm hearing it more these days. I do really like it... Probably slightly prefer Tom and as I'm an English person living in Scotland I dont really get the whole Tam / Rab / Drew thing (but you're right FranSan - you dont really hear any Andy's up here ). But DH says at some point people will definately refer to him as Tam - REALLY dont like that as it has 'Tam the Bam' thuggish type connotations.

So Jasper could be it . I guess it could only be shortened to Jas / Jaz / Jasp so not to bad

Jasper. I love it.

cazzybabs · 22/07/2010 12:58

I love Jaspar

pixiestix · 22/07/2010 13:16

Thomas is a classic and goes really well with your other DCs names.

notagrannyyet · 22/07/2010 13:32

Thomas is lovely, but if you don't like the NN then don't choose it.

Jasper is great too. The only one I know is a Harry-Jasper. It does go well with your other boys names.

loobylu3 · 22/07/2010 20:21

I like all three of your choices and I think they all sit well with your boy's names.

Thomas is the most classic but I love Lucas and Jasper too!

dustycups · 22/07/2010 20:26

i have a jasper and we shorten it to jazz or jazzy!

baskingseals · 22/07/2010 20:35

really like jasper and love jazz or jazzy as nicknames - goes well with your other boys

many congratulations!

BellaBearisWideAwake · 22/07/2010 20:37

Jasper is going to skyrocket in popularity because of Twilight, I reckon.

MrsMalcolmTucker · 22/07/2010 20:43

I love Jasper too but dh vetoed it for ds on the grounds that no-one in Yorkshire is called Jasper. (I can't believe that's true, but couldn't actually think of anyone at all I had ever met, spoken to or heard of in Yorkshire called Jasper). Still like it though.

MrsJohnDeere · 22/07/2010 20:48

Thomas. Lovely name. Goes well with your other dcs names.

I know 2 dogs called Jasper so I struggle to see it as a child's name.

Chooster · 22/07/2010 21:06

Thanks all!!! I've not seen twilight - Is the Jasper in there a goodie or a baddie?
