DD is called Ella, now expectign DC2, always thought I would call a boy Samuel/Sam, but someone said you can't do that as they will be Sam and Ella, Salmonella??? Should I find another name, as DD came first wouldn't they be called Ella and Sam. Don't want to change it, but also don't want to saddle them with some joke nickname for ever!

I had chickens growing up. They were named Sam and Ella.

nickschick · 20/07/2010 11:09

I have a Sam hes a bugger lol!!

nooo i didnt think of the sam and ella joke until u pointed it out i think theyd be Ellie n Sam like you say Ellie was first.

I have 3 ds and the eldest 2 are v close in age and everybody always says ds1s name first.

gorionine · 20/07/2010 11:12

I am pretty sure it was me the Salmonella thing.

I have just found the answer to your problem though. When you call them both say Ella and Sam, problem sorted. Both names are really nice, it would be a shame to not use them because of something stupid I once said in a thread!

OgreRebel · 20/07/2010 11:31

Well obviously I called my chickens Sam and Ella so it's a somewhat obvious link to some. And I've mentioned it on MN before too. Hang on...

Yup, lots of discussion of the Sam and Ella nameset combo on MN, just done a quick search for you.

If you like them use them though.

It doesn't matter what order you say them in in terms of preventing people making the connection. That's how nicknames come about. One person at school makes the connection, a joke name is offered and it sticks.

mendipgirl · 20/07/2010 11:32

Ogrerebel - lol at the chickens

gorionine - it wasn't you it was my BIL, he said a while ago that it's a good job we didn't have a son called Sam because then it would be Salmonella. You should have seen my DH and me look at each other, jaws dropped!

I have to admit, it was the first thing I thought of, when I saw the thread title, and I don't even keep chickens!

whatname · 20/07/2010 11:34

Nah, it would be Ella and Sam.

gorionine · 20/07/2010 11:37

Youhouhou! I am off the hook! I can carry on making stupid jokes!

"I prefer Ellie with Sam than Ella .

For fear of people saying "oh ! here come Sam and Ella" (sounds like salmonella)

Just kidding!

I think I like both equally nice!
Elle is very very nice too!"

5DollarShake · 20/07/2010 11:43

Why are people suggesting Ellie? Ella is already here and named...

I didn't make the link until you pointed it out, but I guess it is pretty inevitable, and referring to them as Ella and Sam won't stop people from making the joke!

gorionine · 20/07/2010 11:47

The Ellie suggestion is from an thread that is about 1 year old 5DollarShake.

5DollarShake · 20/07/2010 11:49

Ah, thanks!

ShirleyKnot · 20/07/2010 11:51

I would reassess.

CapitalText · 20/07/2010 13:12

I've heard the Sam & Ella Salmonella thing before I'm afraid, so yes that would come to mind. How about using Samuel as a middle name?

zozzle · 20/07/2010 14:26

Yes I have a Sam and discounted Ella for that very reason when DD arrived (well there were other reasons too - lots round here)

mopsyflopsy · 20/07/2010 14:51

I wouldn't pair Sam & Ella, because there will be times when you'll call them in that order... and it DOES sound like Samonella...

toccatanfudge · 20/07/2010 14:52

I know a Sam and Ella (that came in that order) - however they had a sister Lydia that came inbetween them

Aeldred · 20/07/2010 15:09

Matt and Ella sounds nice, as does Dan and Ella.

nickschick · 20/07/2010 16:15

ooooohhh i have a Matt too .....
