Primrose/Rosie - your votes are needed!

After months of deliberation my husband and I have finally agreed on the name Rosie for our daughter who is due in 3 weeks. However there is one sticking point.

I have a concern that Rosie is too popular. I've always wanted an unconventional name for my child - my parents were going to call me something off the wall and then chickened out at the last minute and I wish they would have been braver as I would have suited it. A solution would be to call her Primrose (and put this on her birth certificate) but shorten this to Rosie for everyday use. I think this allows her the option to be more unusual if she wants or stick to a conventional nickname.

My husband likes the name Primrose but thinks it sounds silly with our surname; Palmer. He also doesn't want to have to explain to people why we call her Rosie when her name is Primrose and thinks what we want to call her should appear on her birth certificate.

We have decided that we are going to settle it by the number of mumsnet votes each option receives (as we don't want to discuss names with our families/friends) So please help by voting one of the following:
Option 1 - Have Primrose on birth certificate and use Rosie as a nickname
Option 2 - Drop Primrose altogether and just call her Rosie.

Thanks for your help

My daughter is named Primrose.
She gets lots of nicknames. Sometimes Prim (which I love, but it's more grown up [shes only 1])
I normally call her Posy (which was also on my baby name list on it's own but I like variety)
Her cousins call her Rosie (which I absolutely hate. The name is lovely, but it just isn't her)
My advice: practise saying it in a general setting, 'I'm Primrose Palmer's mother' or whatever.

Option 1 gets my vote

Not keen on Primrose. Rosie is lovely though, I toyed with Calling dd Rosie but she's Molly instead.
She would have been mostly known as Rose...
Dd hates her name and always says. Why didn't you call me Rose. There's loads of Molly's but then if I'd have called her Rose she would have said .Why didn't you call me Molly.

Glad you went with Primrose. No issues with the surname that I could see.

I like Primrose and the sound of the alliteration. It's nice as a formal name and nn for Rosie. There are lots of people that have more formal names on their BC and use a nn, you don't have to explain it to people.

I also agree that Rose is such a beautiful and classic name and not overly popular.

But of your options I vote Option 1. Good luck :)

Option 2. I hate when people announce a child's name and say Robin to be known as Robbie when Robin is a lovely name.

Thank you for the update- so glad you went with Primrose.
I've typed 'Primrose baby name' in Google and this thread came up- it's been most helpful.

I just adore flower names and Rose & Daisy are family names but my cousin got there first with Daisy and Rose does not go with our surname (our surname is one syllable and only three letters- think along the lines 'Hoy'- making 'Rose Hoy' sound like a Chinese restaurant)
So I was looking for a longer 'version' and DH suggested Primrose.
I was like No straight away as it was far too 'stuck up' in my head and made me think of the Hunger Games books/films.
As we near due date it's grown on my hugely and we are thinking Primrose on Birth certificate and I can still call her Rose- but like both now so don't mind about MIL who believes if it's on BC then that's what they should be called.
DD1 is Edith but known as Edie to everyone (named after granny).
And Primrose shipman- yes she was married to Britain's biggest murderer- but she didn't kill anyone. It's not enough to put me off.
It's defo top at the moment.
I also know far too many 'Rosie's' to even consider that as an option.

I think Primrose Palmer sounds lovely!

I love Rosie but it is a bit too nicknamey for me so I sympathise with the idea of having a longer name on the bc, I'm not a fan of Primrose though, it's the 'prim' bit.
So I would go with Rose/Rosa/Rosanna/ Rosalie/Rosalind nn Rosie, all of which I think are fab!

I don't really like Primrose but dislike even more the idea of a shortened name like Rosie being put on a birth certificate!

I agree there are better longer name versions of Rosie, as PP has listed above.

I quite like the alliteration but I prefer Rosie.

I love the name Rosalind, but I only know one and she is usually Rose.

Primrose is gorgeous! My DD’s middle name is Primrose, I wanted it as a first name but OH didn’t like it so had to settle with having it as a middle name.

Rosie is cute, bit overused. Personally I would just call her Primrose, and if you wanted to her a nickname I would go with Prim.
