Do I just have really awful taste in names?

BF and I have discussed names, very casually, and the conversations always end up with him saying, "Seriously?!" as if he thinks I'm joking! I'm not.

Here's my list of names I like, please do tell me if I'm actually just crazy:

Boys:
Nichol
Fyfe
Felix (BF doesn't mind this)
Kerouac (I love this)
Auden
Jethro

Girls:
Kimya
Irene (pronounced eyereenee)
Perdita
Clotilde
Ottilie
Proenza
Belphoebe

Looking at them now, there's not a John or an Emily there. But they're not 'bad' names, are they?

I don't think Tull when I see Jethro, I think Leroy Jethro Gibbs.

Not sure I'd use it though.

LMAO at the people saying Auden is a girl's name/unisex-y.

When I posted on here not 2 weeks ago about it for a girl, I got loads of tut-tuts, 'it's a boy name'. Incredible.

diddl · 18/07/2010 21:59

I like Felix & Jethro.

MaryAnnSingleton · 18/07/2010 22:02

Ottilie & felix

theagedparent · 18/07/2010 22:04

Ottilie is a beautiful name, I know 2 of them.

tartyhighheels · 18/07/2010 22:08

yes you do

ApocalypseFlangePop · 18/07/2010 22:14

Oi, my niece is called Maisie !

CountryBumpkin7 · 18/07/2010 22:16

Felix - love
Kerouac - really love
Auden - love

Irene (pronounced eyereenee) - like
Perdita - really love
Clotilde - like
Ottilie - like
Belphoebe- like

Great to be so original - inspiring choices!

CakeandRoses · 18/07/2010 22:17

You do have slightly unusual taste

I love Felix and Perdita.

I like Ottilie

Dislike all the others tho, sorry.

ApocalypseFlangePop · 18/07/2010 22:21

And seriously. Do not call the child Rufus, for his own sake.

SirBoobAlot · 18/07/2010 22:27

Or if you do call him Rufus, just don't let him go horse riding...

allbie · 18/07/2010 22:50

I quite like the names..not Jethro though, sorry! I do agree with you, Adair.

I am related to someone called Jethro. In the adult world it really isn't so bad as far as I can see.

lilmissmummy · 18/07/2010 23:13

I love Ottilie, Perdita, Felix and Nichol

I am undecided about Auden, Kimya and Fyfe - havent heard before would have to get used to.

Dislike the others

I think you need to find a name to meet in the middle. Maybe give the list of your favourites to you bf for him to get used to!

meadowlarks · 18/07/2010 23:36

I love Fyfe. Auden is quite nice.

CapitalText · 19/07/2010 00:08

Why can't someone called Rufus go horse riding?

mathanxiety · 19/07/2010 03:59

Are there no Kenyan names besides Kimya and Akoth? Does it have to be one or the other?

I like Irene (but love Irina), Clothilde (with the H added), and Ottilie from your girls' names, and Felix from the boys'. Auden is nice, but I like Arden better.

Takver · 19/07/2010 08:46

What on earth is wrong with Rufus?

ApocalypseFlangePop · 19/07/2010 09:59

Rufus is a dogs name. Just call the poor kid Rover and get on with it

Can't imagine taking a Doctor Rufus Winterbottom seriously

SirBoobAlot · 19/07/2010 10:06

Capital - William Rufus (known generally as King Rufus, not King William) was shot whilst out riding.

I think you could probably get away with Felix or Jethro from the boy's list.

I LOVE Irene (DD was this for a day or two, it's now her middle name). Beautiful sound and beautiful meaning. But people will say "like Irene Handl?" when you tell them. Just a warning.

I think Clothilde and Ottilie could grow on me.

But maybe best put the rest down to hormones.....

ApocalypseFlangePop · 19/07/2010 10:56

How about Isacc ?? Not common or silly sounding, a lovely, strong name.
