What do you think about :
Fantine for a girl
Gavroche for a boy

ThatDamnDog · 17/07/2010 19:26

They look like anagrams of rude words for female genitals.

muddleduck · 17/07/2010 19:28

or characters from a much loved musical

Dumbledoresgirl · 17/07/2010 19:29

Aren't they characters from Les Mis? Go for Valjean - love the sound of that name.

ThatDamnDog · 17/07/2010 19:30

[uncultured]

Wilts · 17/07/2010 19:31

Marius or Eponine are a bit better

Dumbledoresgirl · 17/07/2010 19:33

Or Javert?

muddleduck · 17/07/2010 19:34

wasn't Fantine the prostitute?

Wilts · 17/07/2010 19:35
Grin
capucine · 17/07/2010 19:35

Valjean is a family name, not a first name
I love Eponine but the father doesn't like
and Marius is not possible

gavroche sounds like the name of a bungalow owned by two wilfully tasteless nouveau riche retirees

fantine sound like fanta have brought out an ice lolly

Dumbledoresgirl · 17/07/2010 19:40

I know Valjean is a surname. But plenty of people have surnames for their first names. It has a lovely sound to it (imo).

flopsy1974 · 17/07/2010 19:50

A little ott I think.

SirBoobAlot · 17/07/2010 19:54

Look down, look down...

catherinewho · 17/07/2010 20:04

Gavroche was (possibly still is I'm not sure) used as a term for urchins in general after Les Mis was published.

And I prefer Cosette to Fantine....

scottishmummy · 17/07/2010 20:17

both ghastly, pretentious and poncy.trying too hard

hocuspontas · 17/07/2010 20:29

Not really suitable for the local comp.
Ok names for guinea-pigs if you were stuck I suppose

hairytriangle · 17/07/2010 20:38

Both awful. Sorry

valiumSingleton · 18/07/2010 16:59

Oh MY. Fantine God.

valiumSingleton · 18/07/2010 17:00

Sorry that was a bit rude OP!

They're both ahem awful, but they are sort of gloriously awful at the same time.

KristinaM · 18/07/2010 17:01

depends where you live

valiumSingleton · 18/07/2010 17:04

I can't imagine where you'd have to live to make those work.

I know, outside the English-speaking world.

sallyseton · 18/07/2010 17:07

Please don't.

SirBoobAlot · 18/07/2010 17:42

How about Javert?

Shaz10 · 18/07/2010 17:45

Don't pick Cosette either. I thought she was weedy and pathetic.

TheGashlycrumbTinies · 18/07/2010 17:51

On my own...
