Please can you help by telling me honestly what you think of these names. I need to narrow down our shortlist.
I don't want a popular name or anything too trendy.

Violet
Dulcie
Josephina
Rosemary
Marie
Esme

Esme lovely, few about though I think?
Dulcie cute and unusual
Violet unusual, quite sweet but would it get lots of "Violent"??
Marie yawn
ditto Rosemary and makes me think of lamb!
Josephina just hideous. Imagine shouting that across the park...

littledawley · 15/07/2010 23:22

Violet - love this, very sweet
Dulcie - I should know how to pronounce it but I don't and I won't be the only one
Josephina - nice but personally I prefer Josephine (and it will get shortened to Josie so depends if you like that or not)
Rosemary - like but don't love
Marie - like but don't love
Esme - like but very popular in these parts (SE) so depends if that bothers you.

LaRagazzaInglese · 15/07/2010 23:33

I like all the names on your list, prefer Mary to Marie, and i feel like im saying violent when i say Violet which is silly but thats just me and its a shame because its a pretty name, maybe Violetta (Vee-o-letta). I like Josephina and Josephine but not so much Josie. Esme is slightly 90's? imho. Dulcie is my favourite though.

meadowlarks · 15/07/2010 23:36

Violet is the best, I don't like any of the others, Dulcie is the worst, I really don't get why anyone likes that name.

Hedwig3 · 16/07/2010 11:34

I like Violet, Dulcie and Rosemary from your list.

Kathleen123 · 16/07/2010 11:36

I like Dulcie, Marie and Esme best.

BlueChampagne · 16/07/2010 11:57

I'd say that Dulcie, Violet and Esme were quite trendy. Josephina will soon become Jo or Josie - depends if you're cool with that.

I'd go for Rosemary and use Marie as a NN.

theagedparent · 16/07/2010 11:59

Dulcie then Violet

foreverastudent · 16/07/2010 13:21

Violet- really like but dont like Vi as nn
Dulcie- too costume drama, if not v bright could get teased 'dull'
Josephina- makes me think of Joey from Dawson's Creek
Rosemary- nice, lots of nns, if gets called Rose/Rosie/Rosa there may be others in the same class
Marie- v traditional, quite religious
Esme - ok

Pasiphae · 16/07/2010 13:44

Violet Lovely, classic but fun.

Dulcie: nice but too frilly for me.

Josephina: Change it to Josephine and I like it a lot. Posy for a nickname, NEVER Josie.

Rosemary: I like it, more oldie than Violet but same vibe.

Marie: Uber classic, but strangely rarely used at the moment. Perhaps due for a revival...

Esme: Ok. Nice and Safe.

mathanxiety · 16/07/2010 20:29

Marie, Josephine (not Josephina) and Esme are my favourites from your list.

zenoushka · 17/07/2010 12:51

I love Esme! Prefer Josephine to Josephina.

GirlWithTheMouseyHair · 18/07/2010 21:39
