Phineas?

Again, for a friend. She likes boy's names with "ph" sounds, but doesn't know whether it's too much. Also, she hates "finn", which he'd inevitably get called for short. Opinions?

Phucking ridiculous

Tortoise · 11/07/2010 22:42

Makes me think of the cartoon Phineas and Ferb!

LetThereBeRock · 11/07/2010 22:45

It's horrid.

CapitalText · 11/07/2010 23:11

I don't like it I'm afraid, but then I don't like names starting with Finn either.

Not sure what you mean by ph sound? Is f sound OK too, as it is the same?

meadowlarks · 11/07/2010 23:39

Yes, the f sound is what I meant, sorry.

Love it. I know an adult Phineas, it's a great name. It was on my list, but we decided against it as Finn is a really popular name right now.

Oh I read this too quickly. If she hate Finn, she shouldn't call her boy Phinneas! he'll get called Finn for sure.

Good advice re middle name from MrsvWoolf

meadowlarks · 12/07/2010 01:13

Hmm yes, I'll tell her.

Fogg and his crisps.

Ignore me - im not awake yet

5DollarShake · 12/07/2010 09:54

Not to my taste.

Makes me think of the mustachiod dude from Around the World in 80 Days, even though he's Phileas

sayanything · 12/07/2010 09:56

I love it and want it for DS, it would be a great compromise for our Anglo-Greco family, but DH doesn't like it.

I really don't mind the cartoon thing, to me it's actually a plus - Phineas is an unusual name but due to the cartoon people will be familiar with it.

Tillyscoutsmum · 12/07/2010 09:58

I quite like it, but if your friend doesn't like Finn, then it would seem to be a bit of an odd choice.

othersideofchannel · 12/07/2010 10:52

Phineas WILL be Finn, together with the thousand other Finnians/Finlays/Finton/Finleys.

So if she doesn't like Finn, don't use Phineas as a first name.

NormanNorris · 12/07/2010 11:04

I like Phineas a lot and I love the name Finn. Perfect name for a boy and man.

I read a thread on another names board a while back (I think it was behind the name.com) which was asking men what they would like to be called. A very large percentage of them said Finn. Says it all really!

Love it. I do think of Phineas and Ferb, but I love that cartoon!
However if she does not like Finn, she should avoid it or stamp firmly on any attempts to use it...

ZZZenAgain · 12/07/2010 14:36

she likes boys names with ph? What other ones does she like? Can't think of any.

Phineas - not good I'm afraid IMO

ZZZenAgain · 12/07/2010 14:39
