White Noise - Monitor or Dreamegg?

Hi all, I’m currently in the research everything phase ahead of bubs arrival and have seen so many comments about white noise machines, in particular the Dreamegg.

I just wondered why there is so much use of external machines when many baby monitors have this as an inbuilt setting. What, if any, is the benefit to having both the baby monitor and a standalone white noise machine, rather than just the monitor playing white noise? Is it the portability for naps around the house and out and about, or is it a sound quality issue of the baby monitors?

We use the Hatch. It’s been great because we also like the light function, controllable from our phones and easily portable when we go away.
We use WiFi cctv style cameras rather than a monitor (though is designed for children - Tapo) but means white noise isn’t an option.

In our experience the white noise from the monitor wasn’t very good, kind of weird lullaby vibes rather than proper white noise. That’s just one monitor though, there might be better ones!!

We also found that the white noise on the monitor wasn’t great and morphed into lullaby music after a while. We then tried just using Spotify via Alexa but couldn’t find a play list that lasted all night so in the end spent £20 on a bog standard white noise machine from Amazon and it’s worth its weight in gold!

Dream egg is brilliant!

We have the Dream Egg. We got it because it’s portable. We attached a carabiner to it and hung it on the pram for outdoor naps.
