Hi all! Just wanted to know if anyone had a baby monitor that detects a baby breathing and sets off an alarm if they stop? We're thinking of moving dd to her own room but I think without something like this I would be constantly in and out of her room checking on her but on the other hand I can't help but wonder how a sensor pad under a mattress can detect every slight breath of a baby? I would hate for the alarm to go off at random times and send me into complete panick would love some feedback from someone with one of these? Is it a waste of money or does it really put your mind to rest?

They detect movement so her breathing means her rib cage expands which triggers the pad as having movement and no breathing means no movement which sets off the alarm.

We bought the angel care monitor a few days after ds1 was born and I realised exactly how much anxiety cam with being a new parent we are now using it with ds2 and I personally wouldn't be without the peace of mind

As said above it detects the pressure of the baby breathing and can be very sensitive, you can also change the sensitivity

Be warned when they start rolling in the cot it can set off but for us that wasn't until 6onths or so and I cannot tell you how much more sleep I got / get because I can use sound to alert me if there's a problem

For me personally it's a godsend

So did you stop using it at that point? Dd is nearly 4 months and is already starting to toss and turn a lot in her sleep, is there much point in getting one now?

No we didn't because it only happened on e or twice ds2 is six months this week and I still use it every night

I think we stopped using it when ds1 was about eight or nine months....it was just background reassuring that I feel much better with xx

Dip you guys mean the angel monitors? I used them on mine and it was great. ..Don't mind false alarms. Be careful of wires though. ..They must be kept secure. (There was a issue over them years ago but common sense would tell you to secure the wires)
I'm in Ireland and I got a hospital one for one of my twins but that was a premie issue regarding breathing and he had it for a year. It was taped to his tummy 24/7.

There is no evidence they help prevent SIDs so we never used one

I think that's a fair point....I'm certainly not suggesting they prevent SIDS....it's used for my peace of mind that I feel I could react if they stopped breathing....I don't actually know if I could change anything but I personally feel it gives me a fighting chance (I'm aware I could be wrong but it can't hurt)

We have the Babysense 5, it has two pads so covers the whole area of the cot. We're still using it for my 2 years old, who is in a toddler bed, and we still don't get false alarms.
