Baby breathing sensor monitors, but without sound/ video?

Hi there,
I want to get a monitor that tracks my baby's breathing and therefore, gives me peace of mind. However, I already have a video monitor that I am very happy with so have no desire to get that included within the same device. Can anyone recommend a breathing sensor monitor, that does just that and nothing else?
The only one I can find through research on this site and others, is the "Respisense" baby monitor, which sounded ideal at first. However, I have since read some negative reviews of it, plus it only works up to one year I believe (?) when I think really, i would like it to work up until 2.
Can anyone recommend any?

I used an Angel care monitor with my 3 dcs. I had no complaints about it at all. I was lucky my dcs didn't set the monitor off in the night, but I do know of people this happened to and they ended up switching it off from what I remember. I think I used mine until dcs were 18 months / 2, until they moved in to beds.

Thank you. But I think this depends on the individual mum. Yes it is my first baby, 2 weeks old & already sleeping in his own room - which I think indicates I am fairly relaxed! For me this (& video monitor) enables me to go about my business without needing to go into the nursey once diring naps, therefore allows me to relax better & baby to sleep properly. It is working for me, as he already had only 1-2 wakings per night. The only thing holding up the purchase, is trying to find the right one! It's not for all, but I am not alone because there are so many out there!!

Thank you! Does Angelcare have video too, or can I discard that part & just use the pads? X

There's no video with the angel care monitor. I had my babies in with me for 6 months, but still found the monitor reassuring. It isn't for everyone, but I really felt much happier knowing I'd be alerted if something went wrong. The only criticism I've heard is that babies do sometimes hold their breath briefly and this may cause repeated alarms. I was lucky that we didn't have this problem.

Hi there - 2 weeks is v tiny for a baby to be sleeping on their own - would you consider having them in with you for a little longer ?

We were loaned an Angelcare without sound/video but never used it - DD never really slept!

The monitors are great to alert you if they have stopped breathing but I would recommend making sure your baby CPR skills are current if you are doing this.

We just kept DD with us for all sleeps (inc naps) as it seemed easier to prevent SIDS then have to think about resuscitation.

Pakora, yes, and we do have a moses basket by our bed... but we quickly discovered that our baby slept much better during naps in his nursery where it is quiet and dark. This lead us to try it at night and indeed, he is a fantastic and happy sleeper so far waking consistantly at 2am and sometimes 6am too.
The thing is, we have the video monitor on him the whole time so during daytime naps, we always know he is okay. I might be washing up, or watching TV but the monitor is always there in the corner of my eye.
At night time the same... I wake up and the screen is next to my head and so i can see him better than I could when he was in the moses basket. I found when we tried the moses basket I still couldn't see over the sides and into it from my bed (and anyhow, we have to sleep sometime - can't stay awake all night watching the baby whatever).
I am not sure the difference in having him there next to me in moses basket where he doesn't sleep so well, or in the room next door with a video monitor on him. I have pondered over why people think putting baby in a moses basket is better/ safer...

FWIW SIDS guidance is that ALL sleeps should be with an adult present as it reduces SIDS rates. This is of course guidance not the law and you have to make your own decisions but I would have a look into the point so you're fully aware of the info out there and can make an informed decision.

For the first six months your baby should be in the same room as you when they're asleep, both day and night.

?The safest place for your baby to sleep is on their back in a cot in a room with you for the first six months.

SIDS is prevented because the noise of the adults prevents the baby from falling into a deep sleep where they may forget to breathe. The regular breathing from the adult/s may also help regulate the baby's breathing.

It's about safe sleeping I guess more than sleeping through at two weeks and the advice is that they are safest is in with you for those first months. Totally don't mean to sound preachy - very best - pakora
