Hello, has anyone managed to successfully treat genital/perianal psoriasis, either with steroid cream or systemic options. I’ve had it for years and have avoided systemic options so far but it is really impacting my life and the worst it has ever been. I can’t sleep and can’t help scratching and scratching every day and night. It is red raw and incredibly sore and uncomfortable.
Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Hi Walkerantler, instead of steroid creams have you tried medications ? I have had psoriasis on almost 50% of my body and face and steroid creams didn’t work. Got a referral from doctor to see Rheumatolgy consultant prescribed Methotraxate and it all disappeared apart from few little patches in 3 weeks. I know you’re thinking I mean Dermatologist not Rheumatology consultant but I don’t. The derma cons only offered creams to me not medication. Good luck

Systemic medications, cutting nails short, lots of emollient cream as a barrier at night, ensuring there is no fungal or bacterial infection in the wounds. And if you're female and the appropriate age group, this could be related to perimenopause/vaginal atrophy, so oestrogen cream or pessaries could assist.

You need to push for a Dermatology referral - both for the best topical treatments and for systemic medications to get on top of this.
