High calprotectin but normal colonoscopy

Dr thought it could be IBD, calprotectin was 400, no infection, lots of gastro symptoms, low iron. Colonoscopy was normal, they took biopsies and removed small polyps. Has this happened to anyone else? What was the outcome?

With some IBD the inflammation is above where they can see with a colonoscopy so an MRI might be needed

Chances of Dr's agreeing to this on the NHS? I will speak with them once my biopsy results are back x

How did you get on?
Iv had bowel symptoms but normal fit test and normal bloods but calprotectin was elevated at 275 and just sent off a second sample (1 month later) to see if it’s still elevated.
I get bloated and gassy (possibly bread ) was getting constipation which led to piles but since not eating white bread Iv been fine.
diarhea but only when Iv ate spicy food otherwise bowels are ok.
slight discomfort on abdomen on the left side but almost like a dull ache
I’m so confused I don’t feel like it’s chromes or UC as not typical with that!
also had 3 kids in less then 5 years

Gastroenterology asked for an MRI which I had last week so still waiting on the results.

Interesting to hear how you get on. My 11yo son has had joint pain, stomach aches, constipation, lethargy and dizziness, pale skin, dark eyes and mouth sores.

Blood and stool samples x 2 showed elevated inflammatory markers and calprotectin. Ultrasound last week suggested inflamation near the rectum and at the junction of small and large intestine, but endoscopy and colonoscopy today looked clear. We await biopsy results and a further consultation with the specialist.

my calprotectin went down from 275 to 211 in one month so really confused 😕
they want to see if I have hidden Crohns in small intestines

My ds 9 has a very similar story we had 3 months of loose stools(up to 12 times a day)
mouth ulcers, urgency and accidents calprotectin was over 500 the first colonoscopy and gastrocopy showed inflammation and a few ulcers in the terminal ilium (small bowel) no ibd on biopsy started on mesalazine anyway as it was inflamed symptoms resolved for a bit but then returned this time with black and dark red blood and low ferritin in bloods. Calprotectin back at 300 brought in early for repeat scopes and this time showed mild erythema in left and right colon and say appear abnormal. Waiting for biopsy results but I’m wondering if they’re going to diagnose ibd what are they going to diangnose as we can’t be left any longer like this. If anyone’s got any further with this would love to hear.

I finally got a diagnosis in August this year, i have bile acid malabsorption.

I have this too, 2 Colesevelam tablets a day keep my symptoms at bay

They only gave me questran which is the powder, I would have preferred tablets! I did ask but the Dr said I don't think they have it in tablet form!! Do you get any side effects from.the tablets?

No, but I only got them as the sachets made me sick. I notice when I forget a day though and it took me a while to get the dosage right
