RA - nail issues?

Hi I was diagnosed with RA around 10-15 years ago and on Methotrexate for many years. I have noticed my nails are splitting vertically and are very brittle, is this something anyone relate to? I only seem to find information saying about peeling which I don't get!

I oil my nails and cuticles daily but still no help!

Methotrexate does cause brittle nails. I guess, depending on your daily life, that would then cause them to split.

Does methotrexate cause brittle nails?
Your fingernails/toenails may become dark, brittle, or fall off. Keep your fingernails and toenails clean and dry.

Vitamin D is good for brittle nails, that may be worth trying.

I have RA and have been on Methotrexate for years, but my nails have never been affected. In fact the bloody things grow so fast I'm forever cutting them. I do take vitamin D and fish oil which might help. Hope you find something that helps you OP.

How often do you take folic acid? I used to take it once a week and had some side effects like this and now I take it six times a week and they've disappeared.

Oh interesting re folic acid @SkaterBrained as this is the one I often forget!

I will start some VitD as recommended so thanks @DarkModeDear @squashyhat - I also recently started drinking collagen, so hopefully that might also help.

The benefits of Methotrexate still far outweigh potential issues for me!
