IBD or something else?

About 2 months ago I started bleeding occasionally when going to the toilet, loose stools & not my usual bowel movement. I went to my GP & did a poo sample which came back high calprotectin, they have requested for me to have a colonoscopy which I’ve got to wait for the appointment to come through.
The last week I’ve been getting aching pains around my hips, bum, lower back and sometimes down my legs, from what I’ve seen other post I’ve not seen any of these symptoms before for IBD. The blood in my stool has become more regular. They are the only symptoms I have! I’ve not lost any weight either. I’m just so so scared that this could be cancer 😢 it’s horrendous having to wait for the colonoscopy. Just wondering if anyone here has any of these symptoms at all? Thanks

You poor thing. When is your colonoscopy? That will give you your answers.

@LulooLemon I've not had the appointment come through yet

I would return to GP and say symptoms are getting worse and worse. Make a fuss about the blood (you could remind them that this is a cancer red flag as a well as an indicator of IBD) and ask if there is anything the GP can do to speed up the colonoscopy appointment?

If not, if you can afford it consider a private colonoscopy appointment. Your local private hospital will have a set price for this if you phone them or it might be on their website.

Following a private colonoscopy appointment, you will have your lab results and photographs which will enable you to then ask your GP for the appropriate treatment under the NHS.

@LulooLemon thank you! Yes I'm going to call the doctors Tuesday & hopefully push things along. Just can't help but think the worse! I'm only 36 x

As someone with IBD I know the wait lists for a colonoscopy can be hideously long. I’d phone and push and remind that the bleeding is a symptom of other things too and really play up how bad the symptoms are. You could also ask for a sigmoidoscopy instead if quicker or get one private. A flexible sigmoidoscopy would be cheaper if you paid private than a colonoscopy

Hi, hope you are feeling somewhat better, sounds like Ulcerative Colitis to me, I was diagnosised with this 1.5 years ago. I have been ok since then apart from the last 5 weeks, where its started again. My symptoms at the moment are exactly what you are describing, even down to the aches and pains. I have a hospital app in 3 weeks. I to am frightened in case anything has changed or its something else. Hope you are feeling better.
