Yes.

I was diagnosed over ten years ago after sudden jaundice and almost complete liver failure.

I am now on a low dose of azathioprine and have blood tests every three months.

I’m doing well, thank you.

I hardly think about it to be honest and it doesn’t really impact on my life.

How about you?

My friend’s mum has it. She’s in her 70s and doesn’t take any medication for it.

I was once in a waiting room at the hospital when an older gentleman sitting next to me told me that he had AIH, that he’d been a heavy drinker all his life and that his consultant had told him that it’s a good job he hadn’t had AIH when he was younger as it can be tricky to control and younger patients have a worse outlook.

No one has ever said that to me. In fact, no one has really told me what to expect long term.

I did join the AIH support group online when I was first diagnosed but when some of the people on there began to deteriorate I stepped away! I also used to research it online and was quite sad about the number of people in the past who would not have survived before the invention steroids.

I look after myself, try to stay positive and sort of ignore it to be honest! I no longer google it and don’t really think about it.

How about you?

30ishiwish well my consultant seems to think I could have had AIH from young, and I’ve been diagnosed for 17/18 years, he told me that after I had a liver biopsy! So obviously I didn’t have any treatment so I take that with a pinch of salt. I’m doing ok thanks, it’s something I don’t really think about much unless I’m poorly and have to step up steriods, I’m a very positive person and try to keep myself as healthy as I can, yes I’m on the support group online, I don’t go on it much. I think you are doing the right thing staying positive and looking after yourself.
