Hi everyone.

Just wondering if anyone has had guttate psoriasis before?

Would you be so kind as to share your experiences if so?

Thanks :)

Yes, about 15 years ago I developed guttate psoriasis after a bout of strep throat. Was covered in measle like spots on my arms, legs, hands, and I think my stomach too, for about a year. The GP prescribed steroid creams which superficially fixed things but the psoriasis would re-appear once I stopped using it. I read about the link between auto-immune conditions (of which psoriasis is one) and low Vitamin D levels, so started taking mega doses of D3 and within 6 months my skin had cleared.

I've just noticed the section you posted this in so of course you already know that psoriasis is an auto-immune disease.

Doh

I had it following a virus, all over my legs and stomach. GP did say it quite unusual and bought a trainee GP in to look at me!

I had a course of strong steroid cream, which cleared it up in about 7-10 days. It has never recurred.

Thanks for your reply. Do you have any other autoimmune disorders?

I developed guttate psoriasis after a really bad cold (no sore throat) but have been having recurrent stomach issues and wonder could it be related.

I have psoriasis, which over years has varied from plaque and inverted to guttate. I got guttate initially at the same time as scalp psoriasis. I also have psoriasis arthritis and over the last ten years have tried a variety of medications. I'm currently on subcutaneous biologic injections. If you have any questions about meds I can probably help!

Just saw your post about stomach issues. There are theories about food intolerance and leaky gut being related to psoriasis but to be honest I've never found a correlation.

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 06/11/2021 20:03

I don't have any other auto-immune conditions. I remember when I was doing my psoriasis research that some people thought there was a link between psoriasis and leaky gut syndrome, as well as well as an imbalance in gut bacteria. So there could be a link with your stomach issues.

Thanks everyone. That's really interesting re leaky gut syndrome - I've heard of this before but don't know all that much so I will do some research.

I have Psoriasis and have had guttate in the past following infections. I haven't had a lot of luck with treatments, steroid creams clear it a little and then I always get a rebound flare, vitamin D cream helped a little, I have tried a lot of alternative treatments with varying levels of success. I also agree with the gut link. Someone called Edgar Cayce wrote a book on the connection to our gut and other stress related links. For me there is also a strong emotional link which I have explored in therapy. I try and eat as healthily as I can, lots of raw veg and fruit, not too much sugar, lots of water, whole foods and small amounts of meat. With guttate I pretty much had to wait for the flare up to ease. I had it all over my body and was very self conscious so I became very isolated.

Sorry the other thread has reminded me it was John Pagano writing about Edgar Cayce.

Thank-you for your reply. I'm sorry you have suffered with it too! I'm now something like 13 weeks post flare up and it's faded but still very noticeable. I will feel self conscious in the summer months! I will have a look at that author xxx

Yes, I have it - it has recurred through my life and usually when I am making poor choices, mostly psychological or emotional ones. The strangest thing: I know I'm about to have a bout because I get invaded by a swarm of something red in my dreams - whether red paratroopers, a big red bus about to hurtle into me, or a small red car blocking my way (the impact of the thing in my dream will usually reflect how badly I get it; the worst bout was accompanied about 2 weeks prior by a dream with bellowing fiery bulls breaking through the surface of the ground everywhere I was running). I don't usually see colours in my dreams, so this is unusual.

coffeeisthebest · 25/11/2021 17:19

@KitKat0909, Oh bless you, it's really shit, isn't it? I wish I could write down some super cure, but I have never found one! The book is 'Healing Psoriasis' by John Pagano. The one thing I felt acutely was that no one else could understand what it was like to have psoriasis and I was all alone. I have found the internet helpful to counteract that but I had it at its worst in the 90s and back then I didn't know anyone else! I hope you find things to help, I would recommend keeping infection levels as low as you can if possible to avoid the guttate flares.
@WhatMattersMost, wow, I completely understand that, I also get flare ups when I am not listening to my own needs and ignoring how I feel. I don't experience red in dreams but I understand what you are saying as there have been periods in my life when I have seen a lot of red and these seem to be when I have flared so that is a little difficult to understand but let's just go with it.
