Critical illness claim for multiple sclerosis

Hi,

I've been diagnosed with ms recently, and am wondering if anyone has made a successful claim on their critical illness insurance?

If so was the process easy? How long did it take?

I'd really appreciate any advice

Critical illness cover varies substantially - the only universally covered things are cancer, heart attack and stroke.

Dig out your policy document, it should outline in there what criteria they'll consider a MS claim. Commonly there'll be clauses specifying minimum time living with symptoms, minimum diagnosis standards (e.g. consultant neurologist for MS) and confirmation that symptoms will persist for a minimum amount of time, presumably confirmed by your consultant.

Gather evidence to substantiate how you meet the conditions and take it from there.

I don't have any experience trying to claim for MS sorry but this is how you need to approach things like this. Basically pretend like they're the DWP and you need to backup everything you say MS does to you and you won't go far wrong.

I claimed on ours, it specified in the documentation that MS was covered so I’d check yours. I had to get a letter from my consultant which specified the progression of my condition. But other companies may have different criteria. I’d definitely pursue it though.
It was quite straightforward but sorry cannot remember how long it took.

Thanks for the updates, I've claimed so I'll just keep my fingers crossed. Ms is covered in their policy so I'll just wait and see.

I successfully claimed on mine. Very straightforward process and they paid up quickly. Hope you have a similar result.

We did for exh when we were married, we had only had the policy for just over 2 years when he was diagnosed. We claimed about 2 months after his diagnosis, would have done it sooner but ds was born a month after he was diagnosed. The whole thing from sending off the forms took less than a month. Ours was with Allied Dunbar.

Sorry for your dx of MS OP, it comes as a shock I know. I have MS, my CI policy covered it, the policy paid out very quickly once they had done their checks. Good luck going forward.
