Lupus rash

I wonder if anyone has experience of the Lupus "Butterfly" Face Rash?

I have been aware of red patches on my cheeks and across my nose for several years. They match the butterfly shape.

I have lots of arthritis symptoms, have psoriasis and have been suffering from fatigue for years.
I have only recently came across Lupus and that telltale rash.

The red patches on my face aren't raised though but they are notable, I use a green tinted CC cream to try to make it less notable.

If it was Lupus would the skin be broken or raised?

Mine is red, hot and slightly scaly (sounds lovely!). Mine also is classic in that it does not touch the sides of my nose - just the bridge and my cheeks. My rash flares when I am tired, unwell or as warning that I am going to flare.

You really need at least an ANA test to diagnose along the rash, and I had a couple of tissue biopsies.

Best get it checked out by a rheumatologist who will be able to tell the difference between a malar rash and other forms of rashes.

Mines is red, burny hot and scaly and appears between my eye brows. Mines was not diagnosed until I was under my rheumatologist. Good luck

Mine is red, lumpy, hot and scaly. Classic 'butterfly' and also on my forehead. Particularly bad if I so much as look at the sun .

Rosacea can cause a similar rash to the malar rash. Given your joint issues I would advise that you see a Rheumatologist. I was first referred to Rheumatology at 21 when I went to my GP complaining of joint pains and with my rosacea rash visible. If you tell your GP your symptoms they should refer you.

I have seen a few Rheumatologists over the years and my rosacea means they always test for ANA as a precaution.

My rosacea is flat and affects my cheeks more than my nose but I do get it on the bridge of my nose. I've had it since I was 15 and it comes and goes. It sometimes feels hot, like when you feel yourself blush or a bit like mild sunburn. Green primer is a god send when it flares up. Vichy dermablend foundation is also good at hiding it IME.

The fact that you have psoriasis means your Gp should refer you to a rheumatologist with your symptoms because psoriatic arthritis is a very real possibility.

My rash is like 'prickle heat', it goes all up my neck & lower face. Raised bumps that itch like hell. And because I have oily skin, they look like spots. As a young teenager I was diagnosed with acne before the rheumatologist realised what was going on. I'm on hydroxychloroquine which manages the symptoms a lot better.
