I have ulcerative colitis. I am really struggling to deal with anxiety with my condition. I also have a suspected fistula and looks like it is in 3 different places from rectum, vagina and bladder. Supposed to be having mri in Aug. My anxiety is all over the place. Currently taking mirtazapine. Have a phobia of general anaesthetic and surgery. Do you have anxiety due to an autoimmune condition? Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi OP.
Never been on the Health section before so only just seen this. Sorry you have had no replies.
I have/had UC too. I say had because I had an ileostomy so no colon left. Lately I have had colitis in my rectum causing pain and bleeding so I've been on steroid enemas. I also have a long term progressive liver disease developed from having long term UC.
You sound like you're having a rough time. No wonder your anxiety is sky high. It's the not knowing and the waiting that gets to me.
I think my anxiety started with havi g severe UC and needing to know where a loo was all the time and avoiding leaving the house if it was possible. I was always in a state of high alert if I was out and about and this has carried on.
I don't have any specific advice but I just wanted you to know I hear you and I understand.
I was scared about having a GA but when it came to it it was actually a relief Flowers
