I’m taking Stelera for Crohns. I took the last one on Tuesday. I ended up in hospital because my mouth started to swell and breathing became difficult.
I then had the most awful awful painful attacks of heartburn that lasted a minute or less each time. But the pain made me sweaty, dizzy and sick. So was treated with a dose of steroids and antihistamines.
The last 24 hours I’ve had the weirdest crohns flare. I’ve never had anything like it. The pain is excruciating when it reaches my rectum and I have to immediately go to the bathroom. The pain makes me feel like I’m going to faint.
It’s always the same pattern.
Very watery, black stools for a few seconds. Then intense pain when a couple of what resembles clots come away, then it’s a bottle of Coke cola has been emptied and poured into the toilet. In both colour and consistency and smells vile.
I’ve never had anything like it before. I’m not sure if it’s related to the reaction I’ve had to Stelera. It started happening yearly yesterday morning but not as frequently. I mentioned to consultant at the hospital. I was told it was just a histamine flare causing it make it. That I needed to contact my GI consultant on Monday if it hadn’t stopped.

I’m really struggling with it and how crap I’m feeling. But after telling my friend she asked if it was blood or stool. I told her it’s literally like a bottle of coke and quite dark.
So i took a proper closer look. Now I’m not sure. I’m worried I’m over reacting and letting her plant worry there. Whereas I would force myself to ride out the flare until I can get direct contact in the morning. I hate going through a&e to get treatment

GRAPHIC Pictures warning

I will attach pictures in order that it occurs every time. The first it the dribble I get at first that I have no control over. Then the blob things came out, this time it was three seperate ones that are on one tissue and so looks like one big one, then it’s the black watery after effects. That usually takes a good few minutes to get out and I have no control. If I couldn’t find a toilet it would just happen where I’m stood.

No I thought as it’s dark it was normal stool and I can see no red blood but my friend said it can be black. I’m so confused and feel so crap but don’t want to waste the hospitals time if it’s just a new flare

That looks like old blood to me. Keep those photos on your phone , and perhaps contact your GO tomorrow . Obviously if symptoms become unbearable / worse try phoning NHS Direct.

Sorry typo GP !

@victoriabun thank you for that. I hate the idea of wasting their time. I couldn’t decide if it could have a look of blood about it. But will call IBD nurse in the morning. It Has been exactly like this every 20-30mins since yesterday. So I’m hoping it stops soon as the pain comes on very sudden and intense as it reaches further down. The pain is like nothing I have had before. Makes me feel so hot, sweaty, dizzy and so sick. After the Bowel movement ends. I’m pain free until next time.

I find the A&E area for crohns is hard work as they don’t seem to get it! I’m trying to hope I can manage through until 9.00am when they ibd centre opens at my hospital. Then I can see my GI and nurse
