Blurred vision in one eye

Hello

I managed to see an optician yesterday as I've had a blurring/white spot in my left eye for about 10 days. I also had a few days of painfully achy eyeballs at the beginning of this time.

The optician did a standard eye test, visual field test, examined my eyes with lights, and did an OCT scan. Everything looked fine, although my vision in my left eye was slightly worse that it was 18 months ago.

The blurring in my eye is odd. I'm aware of it almost all the time - it's worse in bright light. It doesn't flicker or move like migraine aura and doesn't drift like floaters. I'm just aware of a fuzzy obstruction to the side of my vision in that eye.

The eyeball ache - hurt when I moved my eyes or touched them - went after about 4 days. I do still have a mild left-sided headache/jaw ache. I think the blurriness was worse on the first couple of days and then improved a bit but not completely.

So, my question is, could it still be optic neuritis even with the normal eye examination? I've got a huge list of other neurological symptoms and potentially something autoimmune going on. Basically, I'm concerned this is pointing to MS or Lupus.

Sorry this is long, and thank you!

I think it could be. My partner had this and a GP didn't spot it and just said it might be a migraine - he had to be referred to a hospital specialist for them to notice anything. Currently going through the whole MRI/blood test rigmarole for possible MS.

I had similar symptoms, was told it was chronic dry eyes at the hospital, was given loads of eye drops, artificial tears & gel. 9 months later I'm going through being diagnosed with MS after developing numbness & pain in my feet, legs & hands. Like you I think this was optic neuritis.

My son has uveitis ( inflammation of the eye )
His was missed on his regular eye test
He was nearly blind when we found out. He’s only 7 and everything you said he says

I would either go back to optician and say you would like a referral to neurology as you are concerned. Hope you are ok.

Or see GP was supposed to say.
