Cosentyx side effects

I'm currently on 150mg injection of Cosentyx every 28 days. I have been on it for a year.

I have awful sinusitis, constantly. I take varies things to ease it and stay on top of it. I have had one set of antibiotics to help, but they made me really ill (doxycycline), and didn't help, I'm also penicillin allergic.

I find the injection wears off after 19-20 days, and have been telling the rheumatology team this for the last six months. They now want to consider adding in methotrexate too. Which I'm extremely nervous to try due to the side effects.

Would I be better to ask to try a different biological? Prior to the Cosentyx I was on benepali, which didn't help, and the fatigue and nausea were awful additions. I do still suffer with fatigue and very restless sleep.

To be honest I tired of shovelling pills down my throat to alleviate the sinusitis.

Oh and my snoring is horrendous, at the point of relationship ending horrendous. I'm not overweight and eat healthily. I also take six different vitamin supplements to support my immune system.

I think I'm rattling when I move from all the pills 😂

Any advice would be much appreciated

Out of all the biologics cosentyx has had the worst effect on my sinuses. And I think you should be on two injections in one go a month, so 300mg.Oh and it's monthly, same date every month not every 28 days.

Hi Citadel

Sorry I should have said that I have it for ankylosing spondylitis (rheumatoid arthritis). I know that some users with A'S in the USA have two injections monthly, but I've asked my consultant three times to increase the dosage but firmly been told its not licenced in the UK for 300mg/28 days. My consultant has definitely prescribed it every 28 days not every calendar month.

I'm sorry that you too suffered with sinusitis too.

It most definitely is licensed at 300mg in the uk for AS, Ps and PsA.

I'd definitely get your consultant to check because it's monthly, 12 injections a year rather than every 28 days. I'll dig the NICE guidelines out if you can't find them for giving 300mg monthly rather than 150. Dm if you need too with the area you're in but some consultants are wholly unaware (probably due to cost implications) that two jabs a month are usual,

Have you been on other biologics?

Citadel thank you, that's really interesting to hear that it is licensed for 300mg.

I would potentially either prefer the 300mg dosage or push for an alternative biological rather than add in the methotrexate.

I was on Benepali for 9 months with minimal improvement. The Cosentyx is working, and all my markers are down.

I'm under UCLH so really surprised that I am being told its not licenced, I would guess its a cost issue.
