Is anyone else a t1 diabetic?
I was diagnosed in April and am still finding it difficult. Would be nice to find more t1 on here 😊

I'm not but my son is. There are a few people with type one on here but you might do better to post in the Diabetes section. How are you doing? Are you on MDI? Have you had a chance to do a DAFNE course yet?

eggofmantumbi · 09/12/2018 16:20

Ah thank you. I must've missed its existence.
Yes I'm on MDI. I'm struggling at the moment, but have arranged lots more help.
My trust doesn't run DAFNE but another nearby trust has agreed to take me.

Well done for pushing for it. They don’t offer it for kids (or parents), but I’ve heard it’s really helpful. Also check out #gbdoc if you are on Twitter

Oh I'm sure they think I'm a total pain but I want the best treatment- happy to pay a bit if necessary but this is my life now!

I’m T1 diagnosed 2.5 years ago at 37.

It’s a journey alright, but I’m actually really proud at how good my control is right now.

eggofmantumbi · 18/12/2018 06:14

Well done @fantail! Do you have children? I'd love another baby but it's scary!

I have one child who is 7.

For other medical reasons I have been told not to consider another pregnancy (nothing to do with T1, although it would complicate things slightly.

Also, my marriage ended just over 3 years ago, so even if I wanted to, I’d need to find a willing party!

I was diagnosed 2 years ago. It is a bit of a headfuck. I really recommend the DAFNE course, it saved my sanity. I had the added problem that the "specialist" HCP knew nothing about T1 and gave me dangerous advise which would have resulted in diabetic burn out.

I was diagnosed 3.5 years ago. It's a headfuck alright! The DAFNE course is brilliant and makes life a lot easier. I've been on a pump for the last year, so my control is pretty good, when I was on MDI I had dawn phenomena, resulting in high waking levels. The pump has sorted that problem and I would fight anyone who tried to take it away from me!

I had my dcs before I was inflicted with this, but I know my clinic run pre conception clinics for women wanting to get pregnant, so ask your dsn about it. Good luck 👍
