Leflunomide

Does anyone have experience of taking leflunomide for RA?

I've tried most of the other DMARDs but my white cell count keeps dropping so this is next on the list. I have the pills but am a bit wary of taking it - have come to terms with having to give up booze (having pushed my luck and got away with it on methotrexate) but am concerned about side effects and the amount of time it stays in the body.

Am hoping that someone can reassure me it's going to be the best thing since sliced bread so I can woman up and get on with it.

Hi - I've been on it for around 4 years for Psoriatic arthritis and it does help - although also on sulfasalazine and Humira so hard to know exact benefit. My consultant has tried reducing it but I always notice a difference when not having it and not for the better. It is bit of a bummer not being able to drink alcohol but only positive from that is that I haven't gained any weight since diagnosis even though my activity level is much less so every cloud! Have also found non alcohol beers much nicer than I remember. Only side effects I think comes from the Leflunomide are rather loose bowels (sorry if TMI) although I find this balances out if I need co-codamol. Hope that sounds reassuring - oh the joys of arthritis!!

That’s so encouraging - thanks. Any non-alcoholic beer recommendations also welcome!

No problem - hope all goes well and that you find it helps your symptoms. We quite like Budweiser Prohibition and 1664 no alcohol. Good luck Smile
