Colonoscopy

I've been referred for a colonoscopy, I'm not worried about the procedure but I hate taking the laxatives. Had anyone got any tips for making them more palatable?

Depends what prep they send you.

Here it’s a bucket load of senna tabs and then 2 disgusting citromax things that not only taste vile but are tepid when you drink them.

My advice. Bang them down as quickly as possible. I can do one in 3 goes now.

My tips...

Eat sparingly on the few days before, then there will be less waste to expel.

A large straw can help and some squash to flavour the drink. Just go for it.

Thanks for getting back, the last time I think I just had the citromax and my method then was to knock them back as quick as possible. I think it did help me with the 24 hour fast though as there was no way I was going through that for no good reason!

I love full fat coke but rarely drink it, so I rewarded each glass of pukey laxative with a big glass of ice cold coke. And I ate about three bags of jelly babies. I have gas and air, not sedation, so I always remind myself I just need to get through the laxative and then I can get uncharacteristically off my face.

So the process of the colonoscopy terrifies me. I’ve never had one before but reading this relaxes me a little.

I don’t want to remember a thing about it. I want all the sedatives I can’t get 🙈

The whole prep thing. What happens? Is it a couple of days before you get this?

I know it’s highly unlikely but I’m the girl with the bad luck and will probably poop myself on the table

You will be fine. Follow the instructions sent to you by the hospital - the preparation for diet/medication begins a few days before the procedure.

If you do the prep as advised, you won't poop yourself on the table.

You'll need someone to take you home afterwards.

Thanks!

Oh I will follow those instructions to a t!
