Hi,

I have been prescrided 100mg of levothyroxine.

I have been taking it daily but have just notice that the label says

One to be taken each morning at least 30 mins before breakfast, caffine containing drinks or other medication on alternate days.

So is it to be taken daily? Or everyother day?

Thanks

I assume you mean 100 micrograms, not mg? If not, check this urgently as 100mg would be way too high.

The wording you’ve included implies that it’s to be taken every other day. But you’d normally take levothyroxine daily, and there’s a 50 microgram tablet available, so 100 micrograms every other day doesn’t make sense.

I’d suggest asking a pharmacist about it today and checking with your GP if there’s still confusion,

Yes that is odd as there is a 50 tablet. I'd call gp first to be honest.

Thank you both.

Yes i did mean 100 microgram.
I checked with the parmacist who said alternate days but still didnt seem 100% sure so i had a call back from the GP who said it was to be taken daily.

Dont think i will use that chemist again for my prescription.

My first prescription was for every other day but after talking to friends and pharmacist who were all a bit Hmm I took it every day.

The GP confessed that he clicked the wrong drop down box on the computer when he drafted the prescription! Hey ho.

It sometimes suits people to take it alternate days, or more often to alternate a dose different days. (I think its action is slow enough and long enough you could get away with dosing twice a week, but it is usually easier to remember something if you do it every day!). That dose sounds a perfectly reasonable starting dose so agree it would have been intended to be every day. (Very small or elderly people might start on a lower dose)
