Interested in discussion here! I’m in Melb and have been pretty unimpressed with the liberals in Kew and their corflute fracas over the past week. (I’m not in Kooyong, also not in Melb currently, I have a postal vote to fill out)

Well, that's exhilerating!

TerrorAustralis · 03/05/2025 12:46

Can’t believe it was all over so quickly! I was cooking dinner when AG called it. I don’t think he’s called it that early for a very long time.

coffy11 · 03/05/2025 12:49

Ha! Liberals lost and Dutton lost his seat!! So good.

TerrorAustralis · 03/05/2025 12:51

Sad to see Bridget Archer lost her seat. She seemed decent and brave. She crossed the floor against her party a number of times.

FeralWoman · 03/05/2025 12:51

Bye bye potato! Off to the compost bin for him.

Thank goodness Labor has won. LNP would have screwed over the country and done whatever Trump wanted.

My seat is in a 3 way tie at the moment and too close to call. It’ll be down to preferences.

InWalksBarberalla · 03/05/2025 12:53

My seat has actually swung ALP, helped by a boundary change. I'm so happy that the smug git we've been stuck with for so long is out!!

Ooh, scathing remarks re Victorian Libs. “They keep finding new ways to lose”. Well, defaming one of your members will do that.

Where was that? Can’t argue with it!! Our west has swung ALP, the lib incumbent was decent though so I’m sorry for him. Also sorry re Bridget archer. It was all done so fast!!

@Codlingmoths what seat are you? I’m Pearce these days.

Very sad re Bridget Archer.

TerrorAustralis · 03/05/2025 13:05

The Libs certainly snatched defeat from the jaws of victory, if you believed the polling a few months ago.

TheSandgroper · 03/05/2025 13:07

I’ve just had a quick look at https://tallyroom.aec.gov.au/HouseDefault-31496.htm.

When even Moore marches at double time for Labor, something has gone drastically wrong.

TheSandgroper · 03/05/2025 13:13

Any Victorians here? I’ve just looked at Melbourne. Why was Kouta running?

That was on the ABC coverage. One of the panel said it to James McGrath, a Lib senator.

FeralWoman · 03/05/2025 13:21

Hang on, no, a Liberal said it, and said that they didn’t want to do the autopsy while the body was still alive. Well, it’s dead now. They can start cutting.

So weird. I used to live in that seat.

I tried to find something online, but can’t see any info on his platforms or what he was running for. But he apparently ran for Lord Mayor a few months ago.

Don’t think he’s got a great team working for him, because his Twitter profile pic is of him in his undies showing his six-pack. Or maybe that’s his platform 😂

TheSandgroper · 03/05/2025 13:38

Gawd, getting any info west of Footscray nationwide on the ABC is like pulling teeth.

TheSandgroper · 03/05/2025 14:38

And the takeaway from the evening is that Adam Bandt will not be kingmaker. A very good thing.

echt · 03/05/2025 16:38

Liberal Tim Wilson in my area has still not conceded and there was definite swing to Liberal in my bit of Goldstein, an area unlikely ever to go to Labor. I’d hoped for a minority government. Certainly hope Labor make good use of this victory.

As for Dutters, he can fuck right off. Oh, I see he has.

Longdarkteatimeofthesoul · 04/05/2025 01:22

I suspect I am in the same seat InWalksBarbarella - glad his smug face is gone from the political landscape. I bit of a shock result considering the voice referendum a while ago but I hope Labor run with this in a good way! And get fucked Mr Potato head and Suckar!

Lunatone · 04/05/2025 03:30

That was amusing. I'm not that enthused by the Labor party in many ways; they are competent, but not exciting. But I am glad they have a decent majority in the House of Representatives, and really pleased that the Liberals got an entirely deserved kicking last night. They have been appallingly useless, and Dutton showed himself to be an entirely untalented political leader.

The performance of the Greens is interesting and, to be honest, not entirely surprising. I was down in Melbourne last month, and got to see Green campaigning firsthand in a couple of seats, and they seemed far more interested in identity politics than, you know, environmental issues. I feel a little sorry for my local Green candidate in NSW because she is very good, but didn't stand a chance both locally and in the context of the national Green campaign.

Yep, my local greens candidate seemed an actual green, walking the walk and environment focussed. He’s at the very least over 40, perhaps unsurprisingly. The greens as a party though- bleugh. Toxic mess of identity politics and all the usual who cares about women.

Menzies after the rezoning. Bit sad to see Keith go, and very neutral on the new guy- bio reads ok, but I had to go online and look it up since he might as well have been in witness protection for all the campaigning I saw.

I love that you've correctly guessed Deakin from 'smug git'. I was out this morning and just laughed at the first poster I saw of him. Goodbye and good riddance Sukkar.
But like with @Codlingmoths - I know next to nothing about the Deakin ALP guy - don't think I've seen a single poster of him apart from at the actual polling booth.

TheSandgroper · 04/05/2025 08:11

@Codlingmoths ah, you confused me when you said “out west”. I saw Wolohan on Insiders this morning. Very impressive. All four journos lamented his loss for the Liberal party.

R053 · 04/05/2025 09:36

I am so pleased with the outcome because it’s just so solid. I really didn’t want Australia to be divided or polarised the way so many other countries are now.

FeralWoman · 04/05/2025 09:47

Barnarby Joyce has prostate cancer. There’s another blow to the LNP.

My seat is still a three way tie and will need to go through 6 rounds of preferences to get one candidate with 50% of the vote. LNP is leading but after preferences it will be either Labor or Greens. Same thing happened for the state election.
