Neurodivergent kids in Sydney school

Hi 👋 I am looking for some advice/experience with schools please. My son has ADHD and ASD, but doing really well academically. He loves his school and doing well is very important to him. He is in a lovely small private school and is popular among his peers. However, he has sensory issues and his school is very good in letting him wear his sports uniform all day. My sense is that Australian school is very big classes and strict on uniform. Is that right? What is your experience with Australian schools? Any advise on where in Sydney we should be looking at in terms of school? Many thanks in advance 🙏🏽

How old is your DS? Aspect school might be worth a look? They are an ASD specific school that focus on being sensory friendly, but follow the National Curriculum so your DS could keep achieving highly. Aspect South East Sydney School – Autism Spectrum Australia (Aspect). The video on their website is well worth a look, it's really informative and gives a good feel for the school.

Thank you. I am looking for a mainstream private school that is strong academically and on pastoral care. He is in a “normal” school.

Ah okay, in that case have a look at About Us | German International School Sydney (en). Despite the name they have students from all over the world with no requirement to be familiar with German. Their pastoral care is brilliant and the children wear their own clothes.

Mosman High School is public (as in free, government) school and has no uniform.

Age is important as I can think of a couple of primary only schools, less so K-12.

Almost all Australian primary schools have a pretty casual uniform of shorts/track pants and a polo t shirt.

high school is different, my son is at a boys private catholic school in sydney east, they have exceptionally good pastoral care, make very good accommodations for learning styles very much geared towards fidgety, active boys. I’m not sure on the possibility of wearing a sport uniform daily, but would be surprised if they didn’t accommodate if a boy needed this as an sdjustment.

overall I would say unless a more academic private school such as Scott’s, Reddam house or Newington most would be open to supporting your son.

Edited

It would be Year 5 and 7, private coed ideally. Thank you

Hi, would you mind sharing which Catholic school it is? I am looking for a Catholic school that provides good support for students with ADHD.
