I think we are pretty much organised but really not looking forward to this cyclone. I need to get some meds tomorrow and tie down the rubbish bins.

I'm not sure what to do really ! We'll take bins in and move furniture tomorrow once we know if it's going to hit.
The panic buying is insane!!!

Tradersinsnow · 04/03/2025 05:44

I've moved deck furniture and plant pots. My DH decided it was past us and was incredulous that it was predicted to hook back and hit us. So that was a nice disagreement we had.

I've got water, meds and food sorted.

I'm on the other side of the country, but following the news. Hope it's milder than predicted. Good luck!

It sure is. We all need to get stuff, myself included. I went to a couple of supermarkets this morning and toilet paper and bottled water was completely sold out. They are always the first to go.

We just moved house recently from a bigger house to a much smaller unit (rental crisis, you take whatever you can get). I have just gotten mostly over a massive flu. So, I still have boxes of stuff etc. under the unit carport/laundry area. It is covered but open so I have to get it all inside tomorrow. Today I have been unpacking to make room for the stuff still outside.

I bought battery operated lights and an additional torch. We have jugs in the kitchen that I will fill. Also, a bucket positioned next the toilet that I will fill in case our water supply shuts off we will be able to use it to flush the toilet if we absolutely have to.

ImustLearn2Cook · 06/03/2025 09:36

@Tradersinsnow how you going? Do you feel prepared? I have brought up all boxes (we recently moved house) from the carport and in from the porch. I brought in the outdoor furniture and pot plants and I am boarding up the bathroom window that is stuck open.

The laundry under the house is exposed to the elements so I have wrapped up the washing machine and other appliances in plastic. I didn’t manage to get sandbags though.

We are going to put cushions, pillows and blankets in the bathtub and set up the small bathroom to be our safe place.

Hoping everyone stays safe 💕

MotherJessAndKittens · 06/03/2025 09:38

Good luck. Saw it on news this morning. Scary seas! We’re in UK.

CuriousGeorge80 · 06/03/2025 09:42

I think we are prepared. Went to Coles today and it was almost empty of loads of stock, no veg/fruit, milk, beans, toilet paper, meat. Crazy.

We have the sandbags lined up and moved all the outdoor furniture etc. Designated a safe room. Not sure what else we can do!

Tradersinsnow · 06/03/2025 10:04

@ImustLearn2Cook

I think we are prepared as we can be. I learned that the one thing worse than one man telling you are overreacting is 2 men telling you are overreacting. DH's support worker is a very laid back hippie type. They did everything I asked but Jesus.

I just want bloody Alfred to stop wandering around the ocean and get this drama over and done with!

ImustLearn2Cook · 06/03/2025 11:07

@Tradersinsnow Sorry to hear that your Dh and his support worker have made things a bit harder by trivialising. I don’t think that you are over reacting. It’s better to be prepared and it ends up not being needed than to not be prepared and it was needed.

My dd (11) and I are feeling apprehensive. It is a bit scary, especially as we have never been through a cyclone before. I hope it stays category 2 or less.

Tradersinsnow · 06/03/2025 11:10

Yes the prospect of this is scary. I think this waiting game is very difficult. Hope everyone comes through it without too much damage. I'm very grateful we had a tree dropped recently because I think it would have fallen.

DH was eyeing up next door's tree and said if it fell we probably wouldn't be able to use the backdoor... yeah I think a broken roof would be happening as well.

@CuriousGeorge80 not much else you can do. Sounds like you have done everything recommended.

Good luck 🍀 to everyone.

StartupRepair · 06/03/2025 11:15

In Melbourne sending good luck to everyone. What an awful weird waiting time.

ImustLearn2Cook · 06/03/2025 11:21

We are surrounded by big trees from neighbour and front yard. The tree in the front yard was pruned a bit in our first week of moving in.

Trees, power lines and the roof are the three things that scare me. I’m lucky enough not to be in a flood area (been there, done that and won’t live in a flood area again if I can help it).

But, people up north make it through category 2 cyclones alright so as long as it doesn’t intensify I think we’ll be mostly ok.

iamnotalemon · 06/03/2025 11:46

Thinking of you all.

I live somewhere where we get hurricanes and that's terrifying. Whilst it's good to get notice, sometimes the build up creates hysteria and makes it worse.

Neodymium · 06/03/2025 11:52

ive prepped as much a possible. We will get flooded in - house won’t flood but we won’t be able to leave probably for a few days. Mostly today just waiting round. Wish it would hurry up. I thought all would be over by tomorrow and we could spend sat and Sunday cleaning up.

we have got a generator for the fridge as we are expecting to be without power for a few days too. Today was just boring. Watched some movies, watched the news. Wish it was all over already.

Livinthedream1 · 06/03/2025 12:04

It’s like waiting for god. Been strapped down and prepped since yesterday. Sun splitting the sky today and two loads of washing dry!

Flutterbees · 06/03/2025 12:28

It's predicted to come in right over my house, which I could really do without! We've prepped as much as we can, just need to wait it out now. Waiting, waiting...

Neodymium · 06/03/2025 21:33

Well right now at my place it’s quite still. Overcast but no wind. I’m going to clean out my fridge and freezer today.

All the best to you all. Batten down the hatches!

Well we're a bit inland but in the path. We keep getting conflicting information on how it will affect us. I think we'll be fine, just some heavy rain. I worry for my DB, who is, again, right in its path & low lying. SIL is in brissie & worried as they've a huge tree in a neighbouring yard. They've had one from there fall & damage their house before, so understandable.

What's it's shown up for me is true colours of employers. We are still expected to go in to the office regardless of the weather, while most other businesses have found WFH arrangements for staff or shut down. The roads were almost empty yesterday. One staff member was told tough, take a leave day because the schools were closed, while DH could WFH because he already had the setup. I don't, so have to drive in whatever the weather brings. So inequitable. Alfred can be thanked for pushing me to look for a new job!! 😁

Flatandhappy · 06/03/2025 22:59

Stay safe, we are in Sydney but DD’s partner has just taken a job in Brisbane, apparently “he’s not too fussed” 😬

suburberphobe · 06/03/2025 23:04

From the other side of the world, keep safe you lot! Sending strength and blessings.

I reckon you should report them to Worksafe if you could work from home, but they aren’t letting you. I’m pretty sure the government and emergency services don’t want anyone going out if they don’t need to.

HoldYourHat · 07/03/2025 04:30

It’s been a huge build up and still waiting for it all. It’s been sunny skies and a light touch of wind and rain. Daycare closed earlier in the week and I feel for all the parents with everything closed and endless hours stretched ahead.

DC who is a toddler has been going off the wall. I have an easier time at work! I set up so many ‘stations’ of fun with games and toys to play together and we have read lots of books. I bought tons of surprises to keep the interest. Toddler looks for under a minute and loses interest.

Also have the tv on at intervals (but don’t want it on all day obviously). Still waiting for anything other than a slight breeze. Hope this is over soon just feeling claustrophobic here.
