Are weight loss injections available in Aus (Sydney specifically), info online looks patchy.

Yes. Ozempic and mountain are both prescribed here for weightloss

spottygymbag · 15/01/2025 21:39

Mounjaro... not mountain ...

I know I did try to edit but you can’t with titles. What a fail. Is it the same rules? 30+BMI? I’m 27 but just cannot lose weight even with exercising 180 vigorous a week and 1200 calories a day.

Yes both are readily available as is Wegovy. You can get a script from an online provider or your GP.

spottygymbag · 16/01/2025 03:31

Speak with your GP. I think it's 30+ bmi but depending on ethnicity or any other potential
Underlying medical issues there might be exceptions

There are also weight loss clinics that will prescribe - ‘my weight loss clinic’ has got a good reputation and is apparently easy to use.

Mounjaro is expensive though, Chemist Warehouse have got a list of the RRP for both Mounjaro and Wegovy on their website. Neither are on the PBS (Ozempic is but only for Type 2 diabetes) so they’ll be private scripts. Some PHI will refund a partial cost on the script but not all.

There’s a good FB group for Australians using WLI - search for Ozempic/Wegovy and Mounjaro for Weight Loss Australia.

Finally made an apt today. Dr said as its private you don't need a obese bmi. It's up to you but around $400 per month. I'm tempted because I don't have a lot to lose and think it would motivate me to improve my habits after I hit my goal weight.

He should not have prescribed it if you don't have an obese BMI. Nothing to do with it being a private script, he is not following the guidelines at all.

GripGetter · 26/05/2025 22:44

I'm tempted too, but put off by the side effects and lack of exit strategy.

Off topic, but my Dr here in Aus said that waist circumference is a better obesity indicator than BMI.
