Gift card for a treat in Australia

I'm looking for ideas please Aussie MNers! I have a very dear friend who lives in Australia and she's really been there for me the past year which has been a horrible one for me. I want to send her a lovely treat for Christmas. I've previously sent parcels but they have to be quite small and light otherwise the postage is more than the gift!

This time around I would like to get her something more spendy, and also more like what I would get her if she was here in the UK.

I'm wondering if there was a shopping or gift voucher that I could send that might be better? I've never been to Australia so I don't know what the shops or brands are etc.

Does anyone have any suggestions please?

Westfield sells vouchers online that you can then use in their huge shopping mall be it for a shop or service (massage, beautician, ....) or even cinemas or restaurants depending which one it is https://www.westfield.com.au

Australi is huge. Unless you tell us which state and possibly near which city she is, we can't really help you.

There's so many different types of gift vouchers here. Some specific to a store and others more general like a prepaid visa card.

Some top end department stores are ‘Myer’or ‘David Jones’ which can deliver. So you could look on their websites to see if there is anything you like. I would check she has a store close by is if you were thinking of getting gift vouchers.

Also, Next and M & S also deliver to Aus.

Otherwise if you googled a specific gift and put au or australia on the end it will probably bring up an Australian company that can deliver. I do that for the reverse to the UK and then pay via PayPal or credit card.

DifficultBloodyWoman · 28/11/2023 05:18

What would you normally buy her in the UK?

David Jones and Myer are the Aussie equivalent of John Lewis, I think. The David Jones logo is almost identical, in fact, but the companies aren’t linked.

They are often found in Westfield shopping malls so the suggestion by @Cormoran is a good one - a Westfield voucher would be the most versatile option. Well, a visa pre-paid card would be more versatile but that is like giving cash and very impersonal so probably not what you want.

depends on how much she likes chocolate (or how much chocolate she can eat!) - there is the Haighs gift card:

This is so helpful thank you all for your responses! I think I will go with the Westfield one as then I can tell her to treat herself to whatever she fancies!

@headcheffer another option is giftcardstore.com.au
You can get the visa Mastercards here and set your own value (can be emailed or texted to their phone. The Visa cards are accepted pretty much everywhere.
I use this site for purchasing all of our work gift cards so can vouch for it (as much as some random on the internet can)

The Westfield card is great as there are so many different shops she can use it in.

halfpasteleven · 21/12/2023 23:17

Can I just ask, do they have Westfield in Darwin?

DifficultBloodyWoman · 22/12/2023 00:52

Nope, no Westfield. The largest shopping mall is Casuarina, I think.

halfpasteleven · 22/12/2023 05:16

@DifficultBloodyWoman thank you! Didn't realise that at all so you've saved me an expensive mistake!
