Would like to buy something for friend in Australia but in England

So a close family friend of my DM has dementia and is now in a nursing home in Victoria.

My DM has tried to send things from England to there but takes forever. So she’s tried ordering eg from Australian websites/Aussie Amazon. Again issues when ordering from England.

She’d like to send her some nice chocolate (Haigh?) and maybe a nice CD of music. She has friends living in Sydney area and Brisbane area amongst other areas so I suggested she could PayPal them the money and they could order and send for her.

Or is there an easier way for her to order from ak Australian site from England, please?

Thanks!

Oh dear. This shouldn't be too hard. If you have a paypal account just pay direct to them and order delivery? ARe you asking for nice stores in Victoria I can't help you there as I'm in NSW . You can't go wrong with David Jones - an Aussie slightly upmarket department store.

It shouldn’t be that hard but one time she ordered a CD from a reputable record shop online somewhere in Australia but it took ages to get delivered. For some reason either she can’t or it won’t be ordered via Amazon.

Thanks for the department store recommendation.

We would ask the woman’s SO of many years who she’s lived with but for various reasons (not saying here in case outing) he’s got his own issues and as far as I know has moved in with nearby relatives. The friend has a close male friend but we don’t know him so can’t ask him to help. She’s very much of the stage of her dementia where she forgets a lot and is getting emotional and angry. So can’t even really have a good phone call with her.

You should be able to order directly from the Haigh's website. It should be the same for David Jones. Occasionally you may have issues using a foreign credit card on an Australian site, but PayPal is the way around that. Delivery from both should be a few days (possibly a week if there are delays).

Amazon AU is not as good as the US or UK in terms of prices and variety. But the issue with delivery times may be caused by selecting an item that is shipped from another country. If you're on the AU site, you can filter by 'Ships from Australia' or by delivery time ('Get it today', 'Get it by tomorrow' or 'Get it within two days').

I've sent things to relatives in Aus plenty of times via Amazon.au.

Thanks both for this. I think my mum wanted more choice from Amazon au.

The CD it was strange as I was with her when she ordered it, from a Victoria or other state record shop online. It took forever to arrive, not sure how.

I’d use PayPal too.

i think I’ll pop to my mum’s to talk her through it.
