This has been all over the news. I live one town over from Leongatha and believe me, it's the talk of the towns.

We have loads of mushrooms around our place but wouldn't dream of eating them. About 90% of foraged mushrooms in Australia are poisonous.

Then again, you do get groups of people who think they know what they're doing, and perhaps they do.

Meanwhile this is suss-as.

Three people died from suspected mushroom poisoning after sharing a meal. Here's what we know - ABC News

Three dead and another fighting for life: What we know so far about suspected mushroom poisonings in Victoria

Police continue to investigate three suspected mushroom poisoning deaths after a family lunch last month in Leongatha in Victoria's east. Detectives have not laid any charges, but say the woman who served the meal remains a suspect. Here's what we know...

This is very suspicious. I was on the fence until I read about the ex being seriously ill last year! It’s strange how she didn’t get ill then, this time, or inbetween. If you hate mushrooms and don’t eat them yourself, and neither do your kids, then why would you make them for others?

I hate mushrooms, my children don't eat them either. My husband loves mushrooms, so I often cook him mushroom soup and various mushroom dishes. It's not unusual to cook something for someone else that you don't eat yourself, it would be selfish to deprive someone of a food they enjoy!

That said, the video does give me the same vibe I got from that Greek guy who murdered his wife Caroline and dog in front of their baby. I remember then when everyone was sympathising with the husband thinking there was something off about him.

It’s like a modern day We Have Always Lived In The Castle.

I’ve recently reported multiple derailing posts on another thread and MNHQ dealt with it. Just saying.

There's no way this is just a poor coincidence... Her ex happens to have been seriously ill last year, he was invited but couldn't attend last minute, and the only adult not to fall ill is the one who cooked....
Also I hate mushrooms but my husband loves them, I wouldn't specifically cook them for him on the regular, if he wants them he includes them when he cooks but I wouldn't actively make a homemade meal that I then wouldn't eat too, which is what's happened here. Why would you invite others for lunch only to not eat the food you're serving?

winewolfhowls · 09/08/2023 17:10

I am interested to know what the meal consisted of.

Once you know all these exist, white button mushrooms from the supermarket don't really satisfy. Caution: this is art, they won't all be edible!

Her body language and the way she won’t answer the questions is completely off.

Perhaps the mushrooms were in a side dish and it was supposed to be a treat but she doesn't like them herself. Innocent until proven guilty Smile

Gosh, I'd not heard about this in the UK, I don't eat mushrooms, DP does, and picks field mushrooms (UK). I hate it, really really worries me. His friend made a mistake and nearly killed himself with mushrooms a couple of years ago. I've asked DP to stop now as it just worries me too much. It's not worth it.

Does anyone know about death caps, is there something edible that's easy to mistake death caps for, or are they one of the deadly and obvious ones?

I heard a little while ago that the author of the Horse Whisperer nearly killed himself and family with mushrooms, he's interviewed about it here https://www.thenakedscientists.com/articles/interviews/nicholas-evans-poisonous-mistake

I just watched that interview by her car, it was, umm. Interesting.

Yes I remember that uk case . They really thought they were experts and in no danger . Scary

They ate webcaps which are very different from what they believed they were eating which was porcini.
TBH its sounds like male overconfidence in his ability to ID, because I,m a novice and they are so different I wouldn't mix them up.

That's not what she's implying. Calm down. It is true that historically the word stupid was used against people with intellectual disabilities.

It’s used all the time, is everything insulting now?

Nothing surprises me. Some criminals are really dumb.

Stuff like putting a body in a garden waste wheelie bin or a murderer that wore a balaclava but had his very distinctive tattoos on show and the whole thing got caught on CCTV.

In Adelaide right now there’s a woman charged with murdering both her elderly parents with insulin.

Hell plenty of people on remand don’t seem to realise all prison phone calls are recorded.

In New Zealand a number of years ago a Professor of Psychiatry killed his wife by grinding up diabetes medication… when she was unconscious he injected insulin between her toes.
