Anyone been to Tonga?

I put this on the MN Holiday section and got no replies, I guess it’s a bit of an unusual destination from the UK. I am just wondering now there is a local thread if anyone here has been and, if so, if there are any recommendations of things to do, places to visit etc. I know there are lots of islands, very spread out. We got cheap flights in the recent Qantas sale, have booked accommodation on the island we land on, but other than that have no clue what we are doing 😂 Just DH and I.

We stayed at Matafonua which was amazing.

On the main island we hired a car for a day and went to the caves and then another day hired a driver to take us round the other sites. We stayed at Vakaloa there but it is a bit of a distance from the town.

Definitely go during whale season if you can
