Look! I just taught myself to sew!

It's been years of pissing around with fabric and a machine I couldn't use so in the end I bit the bullet and got a new sewing machine.
Tonight I made a wash bag. It should have a zip but it doesn't because I broke it. But apart from that, I made it. I mean, it's pretty useless but I still made it!

That's lovely! Well done. I'm also trying to teach myself x

We have a bag like that on our windowsill filled with products, no zip needed! Well done, I'm well impressed that that's your first project!

pinkyredrose · 30/05/2017 09:06

Oh wow that's really lovely! It's still useful even without the zip.

I love the fabric! I taught myself to sew a few years ago using tutorials on YouTube. I suppose it depends how you learn but for me having the visual instruction really helped. Debbie Shore has some great tutorials on all sorts if things, but mainly bags. Also I made a wash bag using a Cath Kidston pattern from her book "sew". I bet lots of people have done tutorials for it on YouTube .

Akso, If you search for "zippered box pouch tutorial by Crafty Gemini" on YouTube you'll find a different style of washbag/makeup bag which I've sewn loads of times and use for all sorts from make up to holding chargers and wires whilst travelling.

What are you going to make next?

That's lovely, well done for taking the plunge!

A sewing machine has been on my list of things I would like for years but after successfully killing my MIL's last year(which she has been using for 20 yrs and never had a problem-oops!) I put it on my meh list Xmas Grin
