I started knitting this week and love it. However I keep adding stitches. I started with 25 and now have 50!

Does anyone know how I am doing this?

are you going into the back and front of the same stitch, or knitting into a bit between two stitches or winding your wool round the needle twice?

I think I know what you are doing...

I took up knitting when pregnant and knitted about 30 squares for a newborn blanket which have never sewn together - 13 months too late .

Not an expert as have not knitted for a while, but I think you are splitting the wool when you knit and creating new stitches. You need to be careful when you insert the needle that it has all the stitch on the other needle - otherwise you are making two stitches out of one.

It's really hard to explain but hope you can visualise what am trying to say!

ps we have met before - yes? Re clothes!

Without seeing you do it, I have no idea what you are doing wrong. Maybe have another look at the video or the book you are learning from and making sure you go: in,over, through and off then the next stitch.
Do you 100 in the next row?
Have you joined Ravelry?
I'know' you from the prayer thread, yes?

Watch some youtube knitting tutorials. I find "knitting help" to be very clear.

thanks, I never thought of looking on youtube! I have now started again with 30 stitches and so far still have 30 so I am making progress.

DutchOma, yes I know you from the prayer thread. Some ladies at my church do a 'making things' group, it is better than it sounds, we are all young and have careers! But it is fun and I am enjoying learnig to knit!

roslily hopefully you have now have it sorted, you could ask one of the ladies at your church to watch you knit and give you any tips.

I'm also just learning to knit, so far I'm loving it, two small baby blankets and a cardigan made so far.

You are both so brilliant, really nice to hear about it.
