Poster paint cracking

Ds made a paper mache mask in school the other week and we've been trying to make some more at home. We've used poster paints on them but after the first coat they have started to crack. Anyone know why is this happening?

Poster paints are notoriously shit and don't stick to a curved or uneven surface very well.

Mix the paint with PVA glue and you'll get a better result- or just buy some acrylic paint.

Oh thanks tethersend, i didn't realise that about poster paints. I assumed they used them in school because they are cheap but the one he made at school didn't crack. I'll try the pva thing - not sure if finances will run to acrylic paints tho...

Glue + Paint will work fine I reckon.

it's random - afaik, something to do witht he surface you are painting, drying methods (ie full sun or radiator will make it crack) and stuff like that.

The glue should help.
