I want to get into jewellery-making/beading having been inspired by a friend's beautiful earrings. Can anyone recommend a good website for supplies (bead, headpins, bead caps) - there seem to be hundreds out there!

Kernowcraft.com is pretty good for findings and semi-precious beads etc. and pretty fast and efficient. Some good books too.

Beadworks (www.beadworks.co.uk) has a good range but they are a bit slow and their postage is quite expensive from memory but worth it if you are placing a larger order.

Hope that starts you off

I make jewellery for a living, and if your just starting out it can be boggling looking through all the different suppliers.

For good quality glass beads and plated metals findings ie headpins, capps, clasps etc try

beadservice sslrelay.com/www.beadservice.com/sess/utn;jsessionid=154be1ab507f0bc/shopdata/index.shopscri pt

they are very reasonable on their prices, great quality and great on postage, if you order before lunch, the items usually come 1st class the next day.

Sanctuary Beads on Ebay

same as above for quality, service etc

Tool wise - I already had my tools so haven't bought any from these. Ebay would be a good bet, although don't go mad tool buying

All you need is ;

round nose pliers
a good pair of wire cutters
half nose pliers- half round half flat

and if using crimps - a pair of them.

Happy Beading- it becomes addictive you know

fabulous, beadservice looks like just the job. I don't want much to start out with, just got some ideas for a couple of pairs of earrings. I've got pliers so just need wire cutters. Can't wait to get started!

How about www.thebeadfairy.co.uk

:)

When you discover that you've gone mad on beads and findings, go to:

stores.ebay.co.uk/Crafty-Things

as they do a lot of good storage stuff Grin

They also do a mixture of craft things including jewellery making, so there might be the odd item you can pick up at the same time. I bought 3 items and they combined postage for me. Very fast service.
