that "knitting" we did with a cotton reel as kids

I wanted to show dd. I thought it would all come back to me but it hasn't can anyone remind me how to do it/link me to some instructions please

try googling "french knitting", i think that's what it's called.

tatting, you need 4 u shaped tacks round the cotton reel, or buy a 'knitting nancy'

end of wool down middle of reel, wind wool round each of the 4 tacks, so the crossover is to tghe inside of the reel. go round again round first tack

lift bottom loop over top loop and off, into the middle. repeat on round to next tack

thank you both....we called it tatting....i couldn't remember what it was called to look it up! DD has a cumbersome looking thing with chinese translation type intructions...yours are much clearer panda...thank you
